Germans and techno

I was watching a DW news documentary about the fall of the Berlin wall and techno 1 of 5 separate documentaries the German news organisation has made about the topic.

It was saying that techno and later trance holds importance because it symbolises to the youth of the freedom, creativity and futurism.

The former UK ambassador to west German said it defied communism and once they (east Germans) heard the music and saw the culture they wanted more and a different life".

PVD (superstar DJ) also said that he was boy with big dreams but born on the wrong side of the wall. Music allowed him to fulfill his dreams.

I was wondering does Techno still have the same cultural significance to German people or is it seen like the rest of the world see it as yet another club music genre?

Nottingham

Techno is huge in places like Berlin with loads and loads techno clubs. Berlin is the birthplace of techno and it was seen as a way of rebellion and to just let loose and party. There are also lots of techno festivals across Germany.

Outside of Berlin Techno popularity is similar to U.K., maybe a smidge more.

Techno just seems to “work” in certain places for me, with Berlin being the prime example nowadays. Clubs with proper sound systems and cities with real afficiandos.

For me, good techno is minimal, futuristic and subtle. I had the misfortune to hear some really bad techno (IMO) at an event the other day. Whilst I respect the new age communities in my area and have friends in that world, I wish they’d put the decks away

Somewhere

Techno is huge in Germany & has been since the early 90s especially in Frankfurt & Berlin.

Around 1990 the UK had its sound which was more house with hardcore breaks, while places like Rotterdam were creating a more industrial sound which German producers took to another level & evolved into techno. Berlin is now the spiritual home of Techno with more producers & DJs then anywhere else.

If its your thing the Mayday parade in Berlin is definitely worth a visit.

Stone say he is still dancing to this day.

While other day that of you are ever at the Love parade during a thunderstorm you must shout "come dance with me move your like the beat" 3x then he will appear.
