I suffer from Nosocomephobia. It's an intense fear of hospitals. I struggle to go to appointments and even visiting people. I have panic attacks and the idea of being admitted absolutely terrifies me.

Nosocomephobia...Why have these got weird names. Surely everyone fears the medical profession to some degree. It's healthy is it not. Obviously crippling fear could be a problem but does it need a title??

Yeah tho it's worrying for those who don't have it on their records. It's not exactly a natural thing to stick a needle in an arm.

Yeah same. Think it's the control aspect of it. If I work on it e.g make an effort to climb things often I kind of get over it but I have to keep doing it. I'm the same with swimming in open water. Once I stop for a while I'm back to square one.

I just can’t deal with them. I mean what even are they, just blobs of crap that float in the sea and sting you before you even know they’re there. Where are their eyes, their mouths , brain etc ? How has nature allowed such an abomination

Thalassaphobia. Basically a fear of open water. I'm ok in a pool but lakes, rivers and the ocean freak me out and I've rarely been over my knees. Stuff lives in the sea and while my brain understands I'm not going to get attacked by tentacles or teeth, that information does not compute when I'm out there. I've been fine on boats all my life, dinghies are scary enough but boards and kayaks have always been a life hard limit for me.

I've been working on it this summer with my very patient partner and a kayak in a sheltered bay, and I'm down to one panic attack per trip.

I'm still not enjoying myself but I'm more confident with my paddling and I'm not freaking out over every bunch of rocks below us.

(Also, my shoulders hurt)
