"This thread sounds like a reason to bash on vegans for no reason. How about let people live their lives according to how they want and their own preferences as long as they aren't hurting anyone. Novel concept, I know but might just allow some people to get a fucking grip " It may well turn into that but I think the OP was saying more about the fact that there is no legal standard at present and as a consequence people who wish to choose vegan products are being shafted with little redress. I am not a vegan myself but would be pretty hacked off if I were and found I had been inadvertently purchasing products that I believed in good faith were compatible with my lifestyle choice, only to find it was not the case.

" There doesn’t need to be a ‘legal standard’. If it contains animal derived food stuffs then it’s not vegan. If it contains things not listed on the label then it’s also putting people with allergies who buy vegan options to avoid diary and eggs at serious risk.

"I’d good is being sold as vegan. This by definition should be food containing no animal products, (noun a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products). If it contains animal products. Then surely it contravenes the trade descriptions act 2011. I am not a vegan or vegetarian. However I respect others right to choose for themselves. I feel I’d this is a loophole in the law it needs to be closed. Just look at the Hue and Cry over the horse meat scandal. I mean people will quite happily eat Ermentrude but object to eating Mr Ed. " As an aside, we once had a pet chicken called Ermintrude

"Let them eat cake in their leather shoes and woollen Christmas jumpers." Vegans might eat cake but they don't wear wool or leather, not even at Christmas
