I posted this reply in to another thread and was hoping someone would/could answer. Maybe it’s a stupid question, but the OP of that one got me thinking.

Refers to meeting someone through a sex themed site/hookup site -

Lust is just wanting to ravage someone, primal instinct. It's fleeting and it fades, eventually you look at said person and wonder what the fuck you ever saw in them.

Love, actual real love, is very rare. Most people confuse infatuation and the above lust with love.

And yes you can have one with the other, look at the amount of guys on here that love their wife but wanna fuck that hot young thing. Proof indeed.

I definitely got both with the Mr, I haven't had both with anyone else and all these years later still do lust after him and obviously I love him, If I didn't I'd have been arrested for what I want to do when he's sat fidgeting

And the other state that is often confused with love is limerance which is best described as the 'they can do no wrong, shit doesn't smell, just absolutely wonderful' stage

Love takes work and commitment, doesn't just happen. Lust- thinking with your genitals. Limerence - short term uncontrolled intrusive obsessive desire.

Easy.

Lust takes over and drives you forward to that moment where the walls come down and the truth is revealed, whatever that may be. Perhaps the clarity sets in, the depth of feeling or lack of is revealed, the limits of it.

When you're in love, you hit that moment, and in that clarity and revelation, it's no come down, it's not a drop, it's an elevation and realisation of how you feel minus the physical lust. It's tenderness and trust, care and compassion.

It's. Everything.

They are two distinct things, however there is crossover in the Venn diagram in my head.

Can you have both, absolutely.

Can you find both here?

I love lust.

It is chemistry, passionate, exciting, sexy and addictive but unlike love - it doesn't break your heart.

Love is obviously all of those things too and so much more. It's feeling like home in someone's arms. It's feeling safe, protected and having a deep connection that means you're lost without them. They become part of you. A soul connection perhaps.

That's not to say you can't feel some of those things with lust but it's different levels of those feelings.

Love strips us bare and we want to be vulnerable.

Lust strips us naked and we want to fuck.

I agree that love is very rare. Lust is that lovely feeling when you look forward to a meet for days getting hornier and hornier. When even the act if getting ready becomes sexual. But you leave at the end happy to be getting back to your own place but feeling totally satiated.

No, lust is just wanting that person on or underneath you for those orgasms. You can still like them, respect them, but ultimately the purpose of being in each other's company is to have hot sex. Even 'friends' would be pushing it.

Love is when you can't stop thinking about that said person in a non sexual manner. You just want to have a drink with them and be in their company without your genitals even being on your mind

Is it? Considering how many cheat on here and stay with their partners, but do they stay because of love or other reasons like finance,housing and children?

There are not many people in a sexless relationship that are actually happy about it being sexless.

If such a thing can be theorised. Sternberg's triangular theory of love I find a good starting point.

Varying degrees of Lust, Intimacy and commitment define a relationship. If you have all 3 that can be the consummate 'in love' type of experience.

For me it starts with intimacy, if that leads to levels of commitment (spending time together) then you have companionate love (friendship). If lust is there then the sex tends to happen.

Lust without intimacy is just infatuation. Yes they can be separated or compartmentalised I just can't see the value in doing so personally.
