"According to some news articles they've built it bigger than the original planning permission given and applied for retrospective planning permission which the council are now rejecting and are in the demolition enforcement order on it. There's an appeal lodged but who knows what will happen. It's always been a bit sketchy from the start with them applying for an 85k salary while independent trustees were found. And from what I've read the trust has suspended taking any future donations or donors to it until investigations of wrongdoing etc have been completed. Tinder x " The charity commission actually stepped in and made her step down when she tried to appoint herself a six figure salary as well

"One of the greatest grifts of all time though. You have to take your hat off to them." Actually the greatest grift was the Tories who enhanced the coverage about what he was doing. Caveat, I fully respect what he did as a moral boost and his fight to the last spirit. But as ex service and ex NHS I think the government was laughing all the way as not only do they find the NHS with our taxes they were encouraging us to continue funding it after tax by suggesting anyone not supporting Tom was being unpatriotic.

"One of the greatest grifts of all time though. You have to take your hat off to them." It's not a great grift. People donated money and they stole it. It is incredibly pedestrian.

" Tom was used as smoke and mirrors during governmental covid disdemeanours and given huge boosts by personalities and unwarranted news coverage. It is so easy to fool the public and create a phoney hero for them , they are idiotic in their blindness.

"All over the news, stealing £800,000. I wonder what else she has done and is hiding. Needs to get investigated and charged." Must be a Tory scam going on and they need her in the news to cover it up.

"I fucking gave my money thinking it was going to NHS and good causes and not this criminal family to jet off and build a sports centre for themselves. I hope they get charged and pay it all back to NHS. I bet Captain Tom was trying to escape from his evil daughter and family. The money he raised from his walk and the donations all went to charity. There’s no dispute there. He wrote 3 books and in the prologue of one said that he wanted the money to do more good for charity. Those proceeds were held in a limited company and the daughter spent £800k. Not illegal just highly immoral. I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg. Where is the £40+million? "

"Whoa what's with all the judgements? The 38 million raised by Tom was before the family created their charity. Why shouldn't the family assume the proceeds of Tom's books would go to them as or unless specified in a will. You've heard of inheritance?" Because he wrote in the prologue of one of the books that he would like the money to go to charity. Unfortunately he didn’t ensure that legally that would happen. She didn’t break the law but she went against his written desire

"Still like to find out where the £40m is. Is it in her bank account earning interest? " All that money went to 241 nhs charities just as he wanted. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/captain-tom-moore-foundation-finances-b2011018.html The foundation set up in his name is separate as is the limited company that had the money for his books

"... a charity CEO usually drives a Ferrari etc..." And your evidence for this is where? There are nearly 170,000 charities in England and Wales, are you saying that the leaders of let's say 85,001 of those drive Ferraris? (OK, just to be fair, take the make off and allow any posh sports car from a Porche upwards). Nope, still think you have no evidence for that.

"They also (including Tom) went on holiday during the pandemic, and before people jump on the bandwagon off it was to fufill a lifetime dream etc that I have heard spouted around. At that time families were not even allowed to say goodbye to their loved ones before they passed away etc. " They went to Barbados at a time when travel was allowed to "Green List" countries.

"Apealing against getting her spa building getting demolished. " Logic to me states if they didn't comply with original permission re planning (external dimensions), then they'll lose appeal. If they did but only internally differ, they may have the right to appeal or reapply?

"Mr S here. So fed up with the crass and uninformed comments that all charities are a grifters or somehow corrupt! I have very considerable and high level experience of the charity sector, and the truth is that the majority are run by well meaning volunteers. The larger ones have to be run by capable managers, and to attract decent people you need to pay decent salaries. The large mega charities are the exception rather than the rule. Are there some bad apples, of course there are in the same way there are bad apples in all walks of life, but to tar all charities with the same brush is both wrong and disrespectful to all those who dedicate themselves to helping others. Let’s be clear, the growth of the charity sector is a direct result of successive governments abdicating their social responsibilities and expecting charities to fill the gaps. Also, as part of this, governments and local authorities now contract out a lot of their functions to be delivered by charities. People need to remember our society would be all the poorer if charities did not exist, and you would soon be grateful if ever you needed their support. As others have noted, the Charity Commission has stepped in as the regulator. Is the CC ideal, no because Government has increasingly cut its funding, but that is a political issue and not the fault of the charity sector. Has this woman acted illegally, I don’t know, but that is for the authorities to determine." Very well said!
