Bristol.

I have just come across a tablet of wright's coal tar soap in my late Mother's wardrobe and I started reminiscing...Remembering Cussons imperial leather, Camay and Knights castile.

Which ones do you remember?

Somewhere In The Ether…

I’ve always loved Imperial Leather.

The little sticker on it gives it a touch of class.

Well, I think so at least

Still love Imperial Leather but used to hate Wright's Coal Tar Soap which everyone and everything got washed down by my Mother (RIP) with if anyone got a cold.

Mr still uses coal tar soap to wash his hands and vosene for his hair.

I still buy the powdered vim available on Amazon for cleaning as the cream stuff isn't as good.

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

"I still use coal tar soap"

It quite literally is made from tar from burning coal(badly so it forms tar) producing Cresylic acid(Cresol). It has disinfectant properties.Heavily diluted coal tar soap was used as a mouthwash/throat gargle. Its smell is a deterrent to insects and rats/mice.Liquid Cresol was shipped in large quantities to the Gallipoli campaign in drums marked "C" and was used to spray the piles of corpses of horses and men

They all disgust me due to skin condition
