Remember the horsemeat scandal in the UK?

Horsemeat was getting added to food to bulk it up as beef or some other meet.

Did any supermarket or supplier get fined for that?

I bet it stll happens now.

Bedford (or anywhere beginning with B..!?)

It was used by meat suppliers and slaughter houses to bulk up what they supplied into UK / EU factories.

It went in to both branded and retail own label products.

Two sources were traced and both prosecuted for fraud.

Haha indeed, and the whole irony after the UK media-drama was the complaints about the taste going 'downhill' for various lasagnes and beef burgers

I agree it's great, we should eat more variety of meat.

Personally I,m eating more beef to save the environment as dead cows don't fart.

I've never knowingly eaten it. For me the issue in that case was the deceit.

Well yes but no. It's not just meat, it's meat of an unknown untraceable origin. And when you're talking about the food supply chain that a big no no.

The other concern was how the horses were slaughtered. Finally there is a drug that horses were treated with that was not allowed in the food chain.

There are lots of drugs not allowed in the food chain that are harmless. If you are concerned about slaughter methods look at Halal. If you killed an animal that way on your farm or in a regular slaughterhouse you would be shut down and jailed.

Horse meat is not illegal in the UK, it is however illegal not to label it as such.

Bourse meat is leaner in general therefore better for you.

I don’t recall anything about drugs so cannot comment on that.

Personally as long as it was ethically slaughtered I’ll eat it if I like it.

Having trained in the meat industry as a meat inspector many years ago there is a lot people do not know.

Religious slaughter such as Halal and Kosher in my opinion are cruel and should not be permitted but as with everything “religion” is the overriding factor.

Amazes me how they defend religious slaughter yet. most will eat in McDonald’s or other places were they have not got a clue if the animal was killed religiously. Just a though a bit off topic but hey when on a roll

Thin as pencils and very stringy. If cows(vegetarians) are damaging the planet by farting, what are vegetarians and vegans doing?

The issue with vegetarians being thin and string where a cow, sheep are meaty is simple. A cow/sheep etc has four compartments to it stomach to break down the cellulose in veg. We as humans do not have this therefore we do not get the full nutritional value of plants. Simples lol.

You are not wrong, I worked with a veggie some years ago and he could clear a room very quickly if he let rip & wind was not uncommon in his life.

There are some very good points I didn't immediately consider when I put this, so yes there are concerns where traceability comes into the debate. Thankfully these horses don't appear to have been fed their relatives like we used to do with the cows. At least, not that we know of.

I was joking about thin/stringy.As I'm from a farming family I know the digestive processes of herbivores.

Although every veggie I know is thin despite them continually eating.Like sheep.Perhaps that's why they became veggie, following the flock.
