Hello you fabulous lot!

For all you feline lovers (or actually any pets in general) I am just posting on here for some advice! I actually am normally a doggo person but have known I wouldn’t be able to get a dog whilst im living where I am and don’t have the time to give to one but I might be getting a bengal kitten….I know people who have bengals and I have thought if I were to get a cat it would be a bengal and it is the cutest wee ball! This isn’t to say I don’t think cats don’t deserve all the love and attention too!

I’ve actually never had a pet before so I’m quite nervous and excited! So what advice would you have wanted to get before you got your first furry baby? I’ve been looking into insurance and hopefully the other right stuff but I like sharing and exchanging ideas on the forums too

Like what if it doesn’t like me or my jokes? What if it thinks I’m too basic and judges me?

Get a scratching post, and a couple of coir mats (those bristly doormats). Cats need to stretch out their claw tendons, and if there's not a rough surface to do that on, they'll use the carpet, or the curtains, or the furniture.

Find an out of the way place for a litter tray, and put the food and water bowls somewhere else. No one wants to eat next to their toilet, not even cats.

We have two Siamese boys and they are more dog like then the dog lol they are really clever and will even retrieve balls and bring toys to play.I totally disagree Cat are amazing clever creatures I wouldn't be without them they make me smile everyday.

They will judge and not find anything you say slightly amusing... except a lazer dot and some dreamies.

Just remember the pecking order. You - menial dosser, them - God's. As long as you do,they won't spend all day dreaming up awesome and sadistic ways to kill you off in your sleep!!

(I'm mummy to 2 kitty babies!!!)

Ask previous owners what food he/she is on, but the same,but if you see some change like gassy stomach or runny poo,change it gradually. Scratch post up to year is needed. Same with toys. Cat bed is not needed-they sleep anywhere. cat litter I can recommend pressed wood pallets,absorb great and no smell,doesn’t leave paw prints,not sticky.

Do a snip snip by 5months,otherwise when march is coming she/he will sing serenades all night long.

Bengals are quite vocal and demanding cats - they will likely need quite a bit of stimulation. Don't be surprised if it beats up the local cat +dog population and you have rant owners on your doorstep

Proper characters - they are intelligent and you can train them if you invest enough time

We’re both dog people but ended up with cats after our bulldog left us. We thought about Bengals and they look stunning but my cousins is a nightmare for always being ill and he’s super energetic 24/7 which put us off. So we’ve got british short hairs, one is silver with tiger stripes so he looks like a chubby silver Bengal

We have always had cats, mostly rescue moggies, but last year we got a pedigree Burmese female kitten. We wanted a cat with similar traits to a rescue we had who sadly died, but we knew she was mostly Burmese. We did a lot of research for traits of friendliness, intelligence, companionship, playfullness etc. Burmese came out on top, followed by ragdolls, then Bengals. A couple of points re. Bengals came up. They have all the above traits, but can be quite aggressive on occasion, even neutered males who can pick fights with local moggies and sustain very expensive injuries which a lot of insurance policies won't cover if too frequent. They are beautiful cats though.

Very true. The Bengal next door terrorised the neighbourhood cats (including mine) for years, though he’s mellowed out in his old age. Be prepared for lots of cat fight screeching during the middle of the night.

My mum had a Bengal a few years ago. She came to stay with us when my mum was in hospital.

She was beautiful and very loud. You could have a full blown conversation with her responding her own wee language.

She was friendly but also loved her space.

She also liked to hunt and there were many 'gifts'

I loved her to bits.

I had a bengal and they're more dog-cats. They need a lot of attention. I'd have one again if I worked from home but definitely not if I was out of the house for long periods. Also, depends on where you live but they get stol*n a lot. Lots of breeders won't sell them unless they're kept indoors. I really think they need access to outdoors though for stimulation as they get bored easily then can be destructive (they're great climbers too).

That being said mine was great. I used to take him out on a kayak and he'd jump in the river and go for a little swim. Lots of fun but really quite demanding and not an easy 'starter' cat.

I agree - i wouldn't have a bengal as a first cat
