Haven't really got a veiw on this my self but wondered how others felt.

Martin Clunes was axed by Churchill insurance from there ads because he's been banned from driving. The bans for totting up 12 penalty points , he's very angry about this and called them neurotic and heavy handed!

Right or wrong ?

Vic Reeves got binned as the voice of Churchill for being charged with drink driving. He knew what their stance was on things like this.

I think they're right to get rid of him. If it was totting up then hes got no one to blame but himself. If he drives like enough of an arse to accrue 12 points then he needs to take every bit of responsibility for what happens.

For 'normal' people, if they're banned, it can mean the loss of a job, loss of a car and who knows what else so why should it be any different for him?

It sounds like hes just bitter as it was money for old rope and theres not much else on his horizon just now.

Honest answer is I truely couldn't care. However, if your being paid a pile of money to promote an insurance companies driving insurance products, then it would be reasonable to assume you were a driver who keeps on getting penalty points for various driving offences.

It would be like getting an arsonist to promote smoke detectors etc.

If he wanted their dosh, he should have controlled his behaviour.

Yep , I drive for a living so keep myself point free , the rules of the road are there for a reason .

If I had 6 or more points most haulage firms wouldn't touch me with a barge pole !

Actually this goes beyond the obvious, The majority of this forum, as well as the insurance company seem to see Martin Clunes as a celebrity, where as far as I am aware he is an actor, who plays characters, i.e. our perception of him is and should be through fictional characteristics he portrays for entertainment purposes.

So what the hell difference does it make what the actor does in his personal life? are we so brainwashed by the media clamour to present celebrity (so want to spell that bratty) as the new religion that we actually care how he drives.

I think like everything it has to be appropriate. You couldn't have a copper breaking the law while promoting the law....so the same for this I think.

I don't think Churhill take on high risk insurance, ie a banned driver, so how could they have someone who is banned advertising it.
