"They better be careful digging holes in Cornwall, they might create a weak point and it could break off and float away." The celebrations by locals of such an event would last months.

"They better be careful digging holes in Cornwall, they might create a weak point and it could break off and float away." That would not be such a bad thing…. Might get rid of all the second home owners here that have pushed up house prices and have made home ownership unaffordable here for a large part of the local population.

The house prices might drop when Cornwall is drifting half way across the Atlantic….

And brought money into the area themselves or by the tourists they rent out to,also the conversions that put another property into council tax and the extensions that move a property up a band, creating more council revenue that the locals benefit from.

Yes. All the locals with no home, who have to move out of the area, or live in a caravan or with their parents are really benefitting from the councils reaping the tourist dollar. I don't think you can lay claim to council support in the county of your birth, if you have had move to another county to find a house!

"Check out how many tons of earth need to be extracted for each battery car. " Gosh. If they mine and Cornwall becomes wobbly, removing all that earth will make it lighter and it might actually float off into the air! I hope they've done the geology

You clearly do not live in Cornwall if believe that nonsense you have spouted or understand the scale of the housing problem here. House prices in Cornwall are more than the national average… The majority second home owners do not rent their houses as they only are occupied 3/4 weeks of the year. Communities have been hollowed out by these unoccupied premises. Which in turn push up prices making it unaffordable for locals. There are jobs in Cornwall but there is a lack of careers…. Give up your job, sell up and move down here and see what you can afford and the sort of work you can find.

If tonnes of earth are removed from the west, will that make the east proportionally heavier? Will Kent and East Anglia start to sink? " Bloody nora. "Cornwall which has it's own language and has a strong claim to independence is to start mining lithium for batteries. Previously this principality survived by mining tin, catching sardines and producing it's world famous Cornish Ice cream. But will the Cornish get the jobs and will it push up house prices? The mining is in partnership with China. Or as Trump would say.. CHI NA. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news" Firstly it’s a Duchy not a principality It’s Pilchards not sardines It was copper, arsenic and tin that was mined as well as China clay that still mined today. We are more than pasties, ice cream and holidays destination for emmets who don’t know how to drive on our roads.

When this news first started doing the rounds, my cynical self thought aaahh yes, but by the time all of the environmental impacts studies, employment projections, personal and third party risk assessment completed, planning permissions granted and recruitment started.... the lithium battery will be obsolete. Anyway, here's hoping that the people of Cornwall get to keep much more of the wealth than the Scots got from North Sea oil.

The Cornish National Anthem. Or otherwise known as the “The Song of the Western Men” “A good sword and a trusty hand! A merry heart and true! King James's men shall understand What Cornish lads can do! And have they fixed the where and when? And shall Trelawny die? Here's twenty thousand Cornish men Will know the reason why! Chorus: And shall Trelawny live? And shall Trelawny die? Here's twenty thousand Cornish men Will know the reason why! Out spake their Captain brave and bold: A merry wight was he: 'If London Tower were Michael's hold, We'd set Trelawny free! 'We'll cross the Tamar, land to land: The Severn is no stay: With "one and all," and hand in hand; And who shall bid us nay? Chorus: And shall Trelawny live? , etc. 'And when we come to London Wall, A pleasant sight to view, Come forth! come forth! ye cowards all: Here's men as good as you. 'Trelawny he's in keep and hold; Trelawny he may die: But twenty thousand Cornish bold Will know the reason why!' Chorus: And shall Trelawny live? , etc.”

Don't be fooled Glyn" GlynJ is correct It’s a partnership between British Lithium and Imerys S.A. a French multinational mining and minerals company. Based at the Imerys owned old China clay pit at Stenalees near Roche. China clay or Kaolinite is a clay mineral that is mined in Cornwall and also in China …. That the only connection. If you are going to talk about the Duchy at least have some correct knowledge of our home…
