Heinz have waded into the debate and say that their ketchup should be kept in the fridge once opened. A recent survey showed that Sheffield, which was once famous for making knives and forks, has 62% of it's residents keeping it in the cupboard. Scientists as often occurs, do not realise that Sheffield is up north and far cooler which enables them to safely keep their ketchup in the cupboard. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news

I'll be impressed if any one can come up with 57 ways to store it. I can think of 4; the right way up in the fridge, upsidedown in the fridge, the right way up in the cupboard and upsidedown in the cupboard.

My storage option of choice (and therefore, the right way of storage) is upsidedown in the fridge.

I think we have glossed over that serious issue here that dome people Put ketchup on

Steak… that needs to be all over the news Tom!!! Are these people monitored? Is there a list or register where good normal honest decent human beings can be made aware of these vile deviants ( no offence!!)

I have just returned from a roughly 15 year break from tomato ketchup (I wasnt in prison), and I'm loving it. I just wanted to share that in order to feel liberated.

Oh, and fridge storage, but out of the fridge an hour before use.

No. I went on a journey of discovery and opened my palette up to the virtues of a continental diet. Then realised I was happier with ketchup on my chips.

I go by the rule of where it was in the shop I purchased it, tomato sauce is on a shelf so goes in the cupboard! But usually read the back if it says refrigerate then fridge it is

As I only really use it in cooking and not very often in the fridge. The only food I actually put it on is hotdogs then I do like to take it out to get to room temperature.

When I was a kid (growing up in the north west) it was always kept in the cupboard.

I do keep the brown sauce, and fruity in the cupboard these do get used more in my house.

All of our sauces go in the fridge and we're in Scotland. In fact, any food jars or bottles that get opened goes in the fridge (apart from peanut butter and Nutella obviously)

I used to keep it in cupboard but ex insisted it was in the fridge so went along with that mostly as it gave me the leverage to keep the butter out if the fridge in a proper glass butter tray and not have to deal with cold unspreadable butter.

And local chippy/burger van doesn't keep it in a fridge and it does nicely on my orders so I don't see the fuss

Vinegar, sugar, salt. All preservatives, all there in ketchup. That stuff is not going off if you leave it open in the sun for a week!

(So cupboard for me)
