Let's kick things off with Lifeforce (1985).

A good movie in my opinion (need I mention Mathilda May?), but is generally considered average at best.

Dark Star is a mold-breaking sci-fi classic, in that it was the first film of its genre to actively involve comedy.

Total classic and I watch it at leat a couple of times a year..

Lots of the films mentioned above are great.

Good, I enjoyed TRON legacy, for the visuals. And the girls outfits.!

Worst ever, but so bad it’s fun, is the Italian rip off of Star Wars, called ‘the humanoid’ with Richard Kiel of Jaws fame.

Adams wrote the first draft script, but died before production started so ‘heavily’ is a bit of a stretch.

My list of the four most important science fiction films, each of which changed the shape of the genre:

Metropolis

Forbidden Planet

2001: A Space Odyssey

Blade Runner

My contention is that while there are many other excellent SF movies, these are the four that had the biggest influence on everything that came after them.

I'd say a very Luc Besson movie. Eye popping visuals. Utterly mad. Fabulous Cara Delevingne playing a great Laureline. Valerian just a bit of a pretty boy toy. Plot that made zero sense. Could only have been made by Besson.
