Are you in tune with your own body? Do you know when you need to slow down, or give yourself a kick up the arse? How do you do it? Do you carry on regardless? Do you give others grace which you don't give yourself?

your head

Apparently not. A couple of weeks of working long hours and not enough sleep have meant I'm now laid up in bed for the day. Although I have listened today and done nothing but rest. Only because I got told to though and I'll get told off if I don’t listen.

I listen to my heart. When he's calling for you.

I listen to my heart. There's nothing else I can do.

La la land

Knowing if something is wrong or if I have the tiniest of splinters in my finger, then yes I hear my body loud and clear.

Listening to it to take a rest or what have you I'm absolutely rubbish at. I'll keep going until I can't anymore, I'm an utter idiot in that respect

I should listen to my knees when they scream “Pleeheeeeeaaase stop running!”

But I don’t. I should check this post in ten years time when I’ve got meccano for joints

I do know when I'm heading for burn out but I generally don't listen to the nag and keep pushing.

Although I'm the first to nag someone else to look after themselves before burnout occurs!

I give very good advice but I very seldom follow it

Yeah but mainly ignore it because my body is broken and if I listened to it all the time, I'd be sacked from work for frequent absence and would spend half my life in bed. Pain is my body's way of tormenting me to various extents, on a daily basis.

I wouldn't say I'm in time with my body at all. I can motivate to give it a kick up the arse to go gym, do the chores etc. But awful at knowing when to slow down until I'm laid up in bed for most of the day, or telling it to go to sleep at a good time, or telling it to stop snacking. It's something I need to be better at

Ive been hitting the gym 4x a weeks every week since Jan except once. I have a couple of minor injuries and feel terrible about not going so i keep going. I tend to have crash days where ive exhausted myself with work and play but i never seem to catch up. That's also what 40nfeels like i guessn...3 months to go

"I’m the soldier on kind of person. I just get one with things and it’s worked for me so far."

I've been the same for the longest time, but only recently discovered that I'm not infallible. To ask for help takes even more strength than shouldering the burden alone, but will make things easier in the long run.

TLDR - I'm getting better at listening to myself.

I'm abusing my body at the moment, it is huge and i can't stop stuffing my face with anything i can find

My back is also aching like mad - like I'm about to have the biggest period of my life, but that ship sailed a long time ago

Not in tune with my body at all, I normally don't realise I've hit a limit until something goes wrong.

Pretty much this. I push myself quite hard at times and never seem to actually rest much. I get a day off and cram it full of stuff because I don't want to waste it.

I used to listen to my body when it needed a rest. But for past years, I give all myself to everyone else and completely forget about myself. Numerous times I get told off by other people,I should stop, but deep down I know this, but I can’t.

"Not in tune with my body at all, I normally don't realise I've hit a limit until something goes wrong."

As an example, I once broke my neck and didn't go to hospital for 5 weeks.

Like reeeallly not in tune with my body. I only went in the end because my girlfriend at the time threatened to never make any more cups of tea unless I went. Horrifying. Who would do such a cruel thing?

I've spent this week away from the gym. Partly because I've pulled a muscle and general aches and pains and partly because I've been doing round trips to the hospital and haven't had the energy.

3 coffees and few rounds of exercise later you can say the argument was resolved.

You have to listen to your body , the body is the greatest clock of all, it tells you when you are hungry, tired , unwell ,need to rest ,and yes even horny ..without you having to look at the clock..learn to listen to it ..feel how it feels , your body has looked after you every second of the day ..show it that you appreciate it ..listen to it .

"Why are we generally so rubbish at letting ourselves rest? "

Because society says languishing in an inactive manner is lazy.

Because employers count trigger points and punish us for being sick

Because no-one pays your bills if you end up on SSP

Because you have kids who need you to do stuff

Lots of reasons.

I have presented myself at work, in the past 3 months, purely because I know that if I took the time I know my body needs, I'd be hitting a trigger point and I really can't be arsed with it. So I endure it.
