Do you reflect on how you have changed mentally and emotionally over the past decade or so ...... how has this contributed to who you are physically ?

Are you improved in all ways ?

In the last decade I’ve been divorced and had a heart attack. My attitude has totally changed I honestly don’t stress out as much as I used to.

It’s the knowing that even when the worst happens, there’s always tomorrow.

Also nice to know I survived and actually maybe a better person afterwards.

The damage and the improvement can be bit of Siamese twins. I gave birth, I mothered, I nursed and cared 24h around the clock - my body changed but also has been empowered by the process.

I battled many wars and have scars to evidence that so the emotional transformation is intertwined with physical one. And what was the weakness or challenge once now became strength or joy in other forms. Heh.

For example I caught my nipple on the fan blade and it didn't even hurt so much because breastfeeding and shit. Or that's what my mind likes to think.

I don't think I've changed much in the last decade, mentally or emotionally, but I've had more events that have made me emotional.

Meeting nice people; births; deaths; better medication- they've all contributed to my emotional state, but I don't know if I would have dealt with them any differently to before 10 years ago.

If you go back 20-30 years, I was a totally different person. I changed a long time ago.

Maybe I've got mentally stronger where men are concerned, or maybe I've just met more decent men, and filtered out the ones I know will cause me grief.

My brain is a mess through illness, medication and life, so I struggle to make sense of a lot of what goes on.

I'm not good at deep thinking.

Oh hell yes.

I don't think I'd go with improved - I definitely have a better understanding of myself and my relationships, though. What about you, OP?

Cripes I've changed dramatically over the last 10 years mentally & emotionally. And I'm pretty self aware of this.

Physically I've dieted, lost nigh on 5 stone, put most of it back on gone up and down a stone here and there. My mind isn't generally connected to my emotions though. Other than in a lazy sense. I definitely lack will power.

I spend much of my days tinkering with the ghosts of the past it has changed me in ways that make me unrecognisable to my old self physically im larger but mentally im stronger as iv removed as much emotion as possible from almost everything i do and that small amount of emotion left over gets unleashed upon my opponents on the field of battle

In some ways I miss that guy... in other ways I'm happy to have left them behind.

I'm definitely much more cynical now

Not proactively but sometimes things will happen and I smile at how I might have responded in the past, or people comment that im so chilled and slow to anger.

I’ve slowly changed my mindset in last 20-30 from hedonist to having an impact and that’s had an impact physically, health in older age has become priority.

I don’t think I’ve improved in all ways, I think I have less appetite for adventure and risk and that concerns me a little bit I’m working on that , actually today started looking into photography trips in Syria & Iran

I fear that I've been going in reverse. The past decade was not nearly as fun (or confident) as my 20s but my 40s are getting better so far.

My fortys have mostly been menopause hormonal driven, gaining 10kg in a short space of time, many symptoms affecting daily life, it's been a rediscovery of who my body is and how it reacts to things differently now, that has impacted on my mental health and meditation has been life changing for my mindset. I know im through the worst and just have to ride out these next few years before a new me appears

I try not too, improved in certain ways not so much in others, body changes, parenting, lack of sleep, career changes, lots of changes in the past decade for someone who doesn't like change.

Overall though my confidence is probably at a low point but generally I'm happier now and looking forward to the future I just need to work on myself a little.

The last decade has been very different for me because for the first 5 decades I always put others first often at great cost to myself and my health.

When I realised I was no good to anyone if I kept ignoring my own needs I found myself in a better place.

The last couple of years have been tough for numerous reasons but all out of my control.

Oh heck, it's been a rough ride and I reckon physically I show it. 'The Body Keeps the Score' is a book I think, that I haven't read but the title seems accurate enough for me. I think my heads doing Ok through the shit and Ive learnt lots, that I didnt even know I wanted too, but my body has clocked it all and wrung another little knot or stabbed another little pin in an organ and said actually no you're not Ok, have that.

But, it will all be Ok, it always is, eventually.

Ouch! Is that indigestion.....?

Have I changed? When I was 40 I didn't think I'd see 50 and I was ok with that. I wasn't well or happy. A lot happened since then. It's not quite miraculous but close enough if I compare then and now.

Physical changes, well I'm ageing but unhappiness, depression and stress all take a physical toll.

I've dealt with a lot and I'm much better in what I carry and what I've left behind.

Secret hideaway in the pennines

More like the last three years have been a journey of self awareness and personal growth.

A lot of personal and health issues forced a lot of introspection.

I actually like who I have become

I'm emotion free.

It's the other way around, Granny. The physical changes that I've had to accept have changed me mentally and emotionally. Not for the better either.

I think the research is that almost every single cell in your body has been replaced over a decade.

So physically you are entirely different.

I'm far more emotionally intelligent and confident and have learnt to embrace my body - well mostly. Its made me a happier person, better able to support others and have a positive mental attitude

I recently had a moment of wonder at how I actually coped with the things I did.

I'm reflecting a fair bit these days and actively focusing on looking forward to things, being grateful and generally trying hard to keep improving the relationship I have with myself. Years of being an enemy instead of my friend and that needs to change.
