So with the news about cricket being racist and sexist and classist, what year should we expect discrimination to end?

I’m going with 2024 but I’m an optimist.

I had to go and read the report after that, considering that it happens internally in sports across the board, I'm going for very optimistic and maybe 2050 when all the players are robots

I meant discrimination in general. I think we can solve it before 2050. Has anyone tried before? Can’t be that hard

It's been tried for 2023 years since the calendar started and failed, so I'm sticking with the robots

It will never stop, even when we think we’ve cracked it and it’s stopped, some bright spark will find a new word/phrase/sentence that will be deemed racist, even if it was not meant in a racist way and that will get the ball rolling again as everyone starts second guessing themselves and what they can and can’t say again. Same goes for the sexist side.

I don't think discrimination will end, it's guise will adapt but it likely won't end.

We are a society already divided and growing more and more so.

I don't expect it to end ever Pickle. Bias is. It cannot be eradicated but it can be managed. That is why we must always educate and keep awareness high .... but with kind hands and hearts not bludgeons.

I think tribalism is endemic to the human condition. So whilst this will act to draw groups together, it can also draw focus on differences.

Be it due to race, relivion, politics, football or sexuatity, whatever, there will sadly be some level of discrimination for the rest of human history, as there always has been.

That said, I do still hope there can be improvement. And I do believe its possible. I was raised in a very bigoted family and the inevitable result was that some of those views were ingrained. My lived experience since leaving home however has allowed me to form my own opinions and reject those instilled in me during childhood.

I think change can and will happen. Significant change however is, I fear, generational which is slow.

2024 would be nice though.

That said

Discrimination will end among humans when humans go extinct.

The Race Relations Act of 1965 outlawed discrimination on the "grounds of colour, race, ethnic or national origins" in public places in Great Britain.

But racial discrimination is still widespread nearly sixty years later.

In their book “Blind Spot”, Mahzarin R. Banaji and Anthony G. Greenwald throw some light on the roots of the problem. It also shows how to prove quite convincingly that YOU are a racist, regardless of your colour, race, ethnic or national origins.

It’s a very sobering read!

The depressing thing is that if ever it does end, I will not be alive to see it, if that I am pretty sure.

There are just too many people on this planet who only think of themselves and have no understanding of respect, empathy or compassion for others
