Played centre until I got too slow (6’2’’ - 15 stone) then went in 2nd row and spent winter Saturday afternoons for a few years with my head jammed between a pair of smelly thighs - some on here would love that I’m sure but it was backbreaking stuff

I've known a few rugby players and they come in various shapes and sizes. Chunky thighs have been a repeating feature though

Might be why. I've never been ripped, but I'm quite broad and muscular, with good legs.

Not often between butt cheeks in a scrum but anything goes in a rolling maul

Haha similar story. Played to a very good standard at fullback, then as I got a little bigger and slower moved to centre. When the tighthead failed to turn up for my local side the skipper looked at me and told me 'you're in'

I knew my days were numbered then lol

Started playing when I joined the army. And was lucky enough to like playing front row. Tight head or loose, the officers had the monopoly of turning up at match time and picking themselves playing in the back.

Funny as I thought officers were supposed to lead from the front

Coventry

I played from about the age of 12 into adulthood for a mixture of clubs and military teams. Mainly prop (predominantly loose) although at 6ft a little unconventionally tall for the role but it's what I did best and technique is trumps all. Also proficient and experienced second row. I even agreed to an experimental turn at centre. I used to be rather fast for my size and weight so I could keep up with the backs (just). Sort of used as a human cannon ball. But I hated the backs, nice experiment but got out as soon as I could. However with being able to ay a few roles as well as prop I could always fit into any of the teams I played for (I moved around a lot). Anyway when I left the forces I ended up a single parent to very young children and working a fair few Saturdays. So that was the end of me playing Rugby. My son has started playing Rugby at my original club. When I'm at the club and watching him/other teams play I still get that burning urge to play. I guess it stays under your skin.

Mr
