It's hard to answer this for me because I've seen precious few of the big rock bands live, and it's hard to get a feel for how good someone's stage presence and charisma is from a DVD.

If I have to vote though, I'll say Paul Rodgers.

Depends on what you're looking for ... if it's just voice, then Paul McCartney, Sting, or Robert Plant.

If it's an indefineable charisma, an ability to make a 100,000 seater stadium seem intimate, and close, then as many others have said, Freddie Mercury was unique. Followed very closely by Phil Lynott.

Maybe it says something about us, but Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull *still* is. Makes you feel like you're in a pub with him - witty, charming, and a great showman.

Freddie Mercury for his charismatic stage presence and imagination.

Matt Bellamy for innovation and unique sounding music (plus I'm going to see Muse in June. YAY)

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

Not sure about the greatest, but certainly my faves...

For putting on a bloody good show - Phil Lynott

For vocals - Paul Rodgers

And for giving me a damp patch in mi knickers - Jim Morrison

I've seen him on the last two reunion tours with Van Halen. He's kinda lost his vocals but still puts on a great show. Nothing beats the time I saw him with them in '84 though...

Agree to some extent. I love the Roses but saw them a few times and they were always disappointing live (though Brown was good solo). Spike Island was the worst gig I've ever been to. Shambles.

Gallagher had presence and attitude and Oasis were a great live till they hit the stadiums.
