OK, so the 5 main senses are sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell.

You have to give one of these to the government as a tax and live the rest of your life without it, which one do you choose and why?

Taste - I am fussy eater and not being able to taste my food would likely yield a much healthier diet.

Smell 100%

The least important to me and there are times I can't breathe through one nostril as it is.

Plus no more dog farts. Winner!

Smell for sure.

Hearing would have been good 18 years ago. Lots of baby crying and nagging.

Definitely smell, missing out on the odd nice smell is very small price to pay for the privilege of never having to smell a bad smell ever again

I’d probably give up smell. I didn’t have covid so forgive me if it’s actually pretty shit but this is my preference.

Smell

I’ve got a weak stomach so I could do without being able to smell everything.

for a penny

I think the others easily make up for loss of smell.

So, smell it is.

I'd probably go for touch. Sight and hearing are non starters and most of what we taste comes from smell so no chance on either of those.

It's comes down to taste and smell.

And smell wins.

A large part of taste is actually smell anyway. Taste without smell is extremely limited to just sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and savory. Everything else is linked to smell.

Plus the ability to smell burning or gas, or anything else before it becomes visible or makes a sound is life saving.

Give up taste.

See, I thought it was something like that but didn't know if they were equally dependent on each other or not. If what you say is true, I'd go for taste as well

I’m inclined to say hearing. I have noise hypersensitivity and it’s terrible - there are so many noises I can’t cope with. But never again hearing the sweet laugh of a sexy woman would be a big loss.

So it’s a toss up between taste and smell. I’m gonna give up smell, despite the ability to rule out questionable dairy products from the fridge. I like tasting (in date) food too much.
