It's a couple of individuals that I noticed soon after joining their prejudices and lack of compasion for others and I decided I will not post on their threads. There is a third who boasts too much and likes to think that knows it all and I am on the fence with that one currently. Other than that, I post if I have something to say or just for fun

OK. A serious (for once!) answer.

I've only ever considered myself not liking someone in the forums due to them expressing opinions or making comments I've found seriously offensive, rude or disrespectful.

But I've not felt the need to ignore or avoid them as responding to such statements and challenging those views has (in my mind) contributed to the discussion at hand.

There's only been one person I stopped responding to ever, and that was due to them publicly requesting that I stopped posting on their threads as they didn't wish to engage with me, but even then I still replied to other comments made by other users, which seemed to offend them in some way. They've left now (jumped or pushed, no idea which) and it was an odd experience to me, as it felt a dangerous precedent was being set where people could request a kind of censorship of who could contribute to a discussion.

You don't have to agree with people to engage with them. You don't even have to like them or their views. Avoiding a thread due to who started it is a tad childish in my mind and if it becomes a trend then all you're left with is an echo chamber of people agreeing with eachother and an imbalanced discussion on any subject.

And yes - that even includes the virus and politics forums.....

You know, I might pay more attention to people posting rather than the original author. That can have more of an impact on tone and content imo.

"OK. A serious (for once!) answer.

I've only ever considered myself not liking someone in the forums due to them expressing opinions or making comments I've found seriously offensive, rude or disrespectful.

But I've not felt the need to ignore or avoid them as responding to such statements and challenging those views has (in my mind) contributed to the discussion at hand.

There's only been one person I stopped responding to ever, and that was due to them publicly requesting that I stopped posting on their threads as they didn't wish to engage with me, but even then I still replied to other comments made by other users, which seemed to offend them in some way. They've left now (jumped or pushed, no idea which) and it was an odd experience to me, as it felt a dangerous precedent was being set where people could request a kind of censorship of who could contribute to a discussion.

You don't have to agree with people to engage with them. You don't even have to like them or their views. Avoiding a thread due to who started it is a tad childish in my mind and if it becomes a trend then all you're left with is an echo chamber of people agreeing with eachother and an imbalanced discussion on any subject.

And yes - that even includes the virus and politics forums.....
