Fringe... give it a chance as the plot really grows on you.

And about two series in comes up with simply the best character nickname in the history of TV!

The superb German series, Dark on Netflix

It boasts a delightfully intricate plot across multiple time lines and in season three, expands to include parallel dimensions.

It really is one of the best series I’ve seen on the streaming service

I'm surprised. It's the first episodic sci-fi series to also include a long story arc; but the character development is what makes it special. Londo and G'Kar are outstanding characters, amongst many others. And who could fail to cheer when Vir waves at Mr. Morden's head on a spike? Lol.

Try "The Expanse" and

"Tales From The Loop"

Alternatively, Head over to YouTube and search for "DUST" a Sci-Fi anthology series featuring world class actors such as Tim Spall & Pedro Pascal. "Episode" length ranges from about 90ish minutes, to as little as 2-3 minutes. Dip in and give it a whirl!

Copy and paste this link as an example:

I suppose it depends very much on what you're looking for from your sci-fi. I can see from your post, and mine, that we look for rather different things in a show. I want character exploration and development, interesting narrative arcs, and unexpected plot developments. You want impressive battles, spaceships in combat and to see action. There's nothing wrong with that, but I can understand why you're disappointed by the series you've mentioned.

By the way, I also have a soft spot for the original BSG - it was 80s cheese at it's best.

For The Expanse fans check out the books the series is based on. It's a completed run and where the TV series ends the books carry on (at least 3 books), so the ending of the show, is not the end of the story....gives hope we may see more.

The first 2 seasons were good, then it became just whispering and emotional gut-spilling. So much potential completely wasted. *rant over *

Recentish:

Upload, Avenue 5, Lost in Space (2018), Star Trek - Prodigy & Lower Decks (yes animated but both good Trek), Star Wars - The Bad Batch & Visions (animated but both excellent), Agents of Shield, Grimm, Hanna

More classicer:

V (1980s), Firefly, Farscape, Now and Again, Dark Angel, Millennium, X-Files, Quantum Leap.
