Just out of curiosity really but what sort of first message is going to actually attract you to reply to someone?

Let's make it a given that there's decent photos attached

Anyone had some really impressive ones?

I only ever reply to the funny sarcastic ones.

Compliments piss me off.

And to be honest, with the lack of replies men get I wouldn't expect them to read my profile or anything.

Just be hot and make me laugh and we're done.

I personally check the profile out before looking at any messages. If the profile seems good and we seem on the same level then I go from there.

We have had some absolute pearlers, in some ways pictures and bio can swing it and yours are tasteful and not the same dick pics. Handsome too. But if your message was the same old "Hey there, wanna fuck" we would just delete you. The premise if the thread is legit, but can't offer any pointers other that just be yourself and engage us.

Can't really say tbh, I have had some really lovely first msgs in the past before replying I've looked at their profile and instantly deleted the msg. At the same time I've had just a simple hello or hi msg looked at their profile liked it and replied and had some really good conversations, isn't really a formula for a first msg for me to reply to, more to do with their profile and how they come across.

"Something that proves they’ve actually read my profile "

Agreed, I mean if they're really interested, they'll run over it, right?

I have to admit, I am terrible for reading profiles. I can talk to someone for a few weeks before I get round to reading it!

I'll try again. Feckin autocarrot!

From a profile that matched our preferences perfectly and really caught our eye? "Hi" would be fine.

From one we'd never be interested in ever, not in the slightest and if they were the only other profile left in existence aside from ours? The greatest first message in the history of first messages would go unread.

We view a profile first before any message.

We tend to reply to all (mainly), but we find the ones that begin with a variation of, how are you? Rarely gets started.

If you're going to initiate conversation, try to actually converse.

Though, you're likely to be one of few in someone's inbox, rather than the majority trying for interest.

One that indicates they’ve read the profile and that isn’t a copy and paste!

One that indicates they have read our profile. Also something longer than one sentence.

I don't really care that much about the 1st message as long as it's not just 1 word or 1 letter (yes we had that)

If I like the look of the profile I'll reply if I don't I won't regardless of the message.

"...we seem on the same level then I go from there.

This I feel is paramount. Same as in 'real life' meets... not everyone is going to get on and click, it's about similar interests and matching up.

There's not one magic type of message that will instigate a response or get you noticed above others — for example in this thread so far, .Lilith. enjoys a witty, sarcastic one whereas others might be instantly turned off by this!

Just be yourself and expect realistic results.

You'd think this would be the case wouldn't you yeah, I do sometimes as good as a profiles photos seem look at a full on essay and haha but yes I would still read if full interest

It's good to hear people's outlook, find ir especially interesting that people don't read the message and check the profile first

Thank you for that

Really this wasn't so much for advice Just a genuine interest in people's outlook

Just wondering if I ought rewrite my profile now... but then I rarely ever message first anyway and often because I've read a profile fully, let the self doubt set in and don't want to waste their time.

I go through phases though of being on and off the forums and live on hope that a message or reply from something I say there, may perk another's interest.

Note to self- rewrite profile and be more active... maybe one day I might even send out a couple more messages.

Firstly, as it's against site rules to post content of personal messages, no one can really tell you.

In any case, what you write in your message is irrelevant if it never gets read as anyone you contact will always check out your profile first, before they even think about whether or not they're interested in what you've sent them, and have likely already made their mind up about you before they even get to it
