If we go solely on talent. ie songwriting/lyrics/music Elvis Presley isn't even King of the Elvis's.

Elvis Costello leaves him standing

I think the Kings of that period were those that wrote and performed their own songs....

Stevie Wonder wins it hands down on that score for me

"Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson ?"

King of what? One had a passion for kids food with extra cheese the other had a passion for.....Well I won't go there but in reality there were better showmen and better song writers elsewhere. I would if pushed say Elton John as a solo act and even George Michael in this heyday although neither were to my tastes I think begrudgingly they had more charisma and talent to name but two.

Elvis: icon, idol to millions, could have had any woman he wanted

Jackson: icon, idol to millions, didn't want any woman, preferred kids.

No contest.

Neither, for me there is only one king. . .Ray Charles. He was a master at so many genres, you could argue he invented half of them!

I find Jackson hugely over rated and never got it, Elvis just made already great material available to the white masses.

So that's it, end of discussion, ?Ray Charles wins, yay!

As brilliant as Ray was as a pianist and singer he wrote very little of his own hit material, for me it's got to be someone who invents a song from scratch and sees it all the way through....

I didn’t see the Gershwin White House concert, but I bet it was truly fantastic,,,,

Their contribution to modern popular music is quite phenomenal, not many can match it for quality or output ,,,
