Buying an SUV

So am looking at an suv to give us more room for the grandkids. What have we all got on here and what is recommended? Have hired quite a few Qashqais and always liked them. The sportage looks good as well. Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciated

We had a sportage a few years ago and loved it! Plenty room in the back for the kids and decent boot space. That’s as far as my knowledge goes on cars though

I've got a Kuga it's ok

Wife has the MG ZS EV she loves it

(honestly so do I but I've bought the Kuga now so have to show I'm loving it)

Mates have Volvo X60 he's enjoying and another has the Land Rover Discovery he swears by it

Best thi g to do is check out as many as you can and see what your most comfortable in.

Personally I wouldn’t get a Qashqai. I’ve had problems with them and everyone I know who’s had one has too. Also Mackems build them. You can’t trust them.

I drove a Sportage about 5-6 years ago and I was really impressed with it. I did about 200 miles in it and considering my original opinions on Kia it was decent.

Can't stand them myself.

All the major manufacturers are dropping traditional type cars in favour of SUVs.

Ford dropped the Mondeo last year. Galaxy and S-Max went in April, Fiesta production ends this month and Focus will be gone by 2025

XTRAIL is a great car, much like a Qashqai but that bit bigger & can get 7 seat ones.

Not sure being built by Mackhams means Qashqai are rubbish.

Not a car out there that doesn't have its own historic issues.

So many SUVs look big but are actually small on the inside, like a reverse TARDIS. If it was me I'd go take a look at some estates like a v60,3 or 5 series or Octavia. Cheaper to run and insure too, whatever you go for...hpi check it for peace of mind.

VW touran? Not exactly an SUV but takes 7 and has a big boot when you’re only carrying 5. For buggies and shiz.

I won’t tell you what happened to mine but if I did you’d be horrified.

If you like the Sportage also take a look at the Hyundai Tucson. Kia & Hyundai are sister companies so the engines and tech in the cars is the same, just the styling is different.

I've had a Tucson for 2 years, got loads of tech, decent on fuel, great space and they're really reliable.

To be fair - I don't think there are any 'bad' SUVs around.

It all depends on budget and spec.

When choosing mine, my choices were Porsche Cayenne, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7 (hybrid versions)

The Volvo has the slightly better reputation, but I wanted the Q7 for the extra power.

I've gad it for 2.5 years and love it.

Avoid the cashcow as they are known in the trade unless you like throwing your cash at a dealer

Just picked up a new Xtrail last week. We have had a Quasqai previously, which was a great car but wanted something bigger.

So far we are loving the Xtrail, Mrs xxx

Love our Skoda Kodiaq. Loads and loads of space for the sprogs and dogs. Good for me for work when I'm going to new sites and need the 4x4 to get out of a swamp.

VW Tiguan would be my suggestion but I’ll always pick VW

Had a Tiguan and a T-Roc. I think the T-Roc was nicer to drive, Tiguan ks the one if you want space.

I'd also look at the Hyundai Tuscon and Kia Sportage. Equally as good as the VWs, but more standard kit for your money.

Mazda CX5 is also a strong choice. Fantastic to drive, loads of kit, and looks sensational

I've got a Ford Kuga, it's my 2nd one and I like it. I need it for the dogs, camping, carrying furniture I restore, and towing a boat. It does it all without any problem.
