Manchester (she/her)

Exercise - although maybe not at this hour. Meditate. Talk to a friend. Put on some music and sing.

For now, try to have a big glass of water so you don't feel so rotten in the morning. Have a shower or do something that feels nice that helps you settle for bed. Sleep will help.

Definitely try the music OP. It helps me a lot when I get low. And try to not drink as much. It just makes it worse. I know that’s hard but it will make you feel better. Sending hugs

I'm learning to make time to do stuff for me and my benefit. I might book a half day or day off work and take myself to the cinema or swimming or horse riding. Reduces stress and gives me space from a hectic house and life.

Sorry to hear you are feeling low. I agree with music as that always helps me. Talking to a friend and sharing how you feel will help you feel less alone and not keep things bottled up. I also find writing things down helps me sometimes to get my feelings out when I struggle to know what to say to someone else.

Hey bro.

I do guided meditation to help with lows. Also drink lots of water as that helps. Try remember to eat. If you don’t feel like you can talk to anyone, write it down!

I can relate OP.... and it’s pretty shit!! I’m not great at talking about what I’m feeling/thinking either and get very stuck in my own head.

There are a few things that I’ve found have helped somewhat....

Ive stopped watching telly & listening to the radio, (the constant negativity wasn’t doing me any favours) and I was surprised at what a difference it made.

I get out into nature as much as possible, away from everything & everyone

I make a point of looking for positives every single day & focus on them

And this one probable sounds a bit daft, but on my particularly bad days, I will “allow” myself to just feel shit, but, only for a specific length of time, be it 5 minutes or an hour and when that time is up, I get out, put a smile on my face and get on with my day.

I don’t know if any of my ramblings are helpful, just know that you aren’t alone.

Journaling helps I find. Sometimes it helps to give perspective. For example, I wrote a letter to an ex once. I didn't send it but it helped to get everything out.

Some great advice above... Find something that fits you and your life and then try to set yourself achievable goals - little and often

Op. The fact you know you’re drinking too much is a great start isn’t it? You know you don’t want to, and it’s not your normal thing to do?!?!

Me, I’ve been referred, and I’ve followed it through to talk to someone, I’ve been avoiding answering the email for weeks scared of opening my bag of problems and dealing with it all.

1st steps pal.

Stopping drinking and finding new and exciting things to do.

You know that thing that you always said “I’d love to try that” ?

Go and try it and then try the next thing and the next until something captures you and you forget about drink and start really living.

Good luck.

I would also say OP, don’t try and make lots of big changes all at once, it can be overwhelming, meaning it’s unlikely you’d (or any of us) would stick to them.

You’ve taken the first and possibly the hardest step already by acknowledging there’s a problem, not always an easy thing to do, give yourself credit for that.

Be kind and patient with yourself. Xx

OP. It might not feel like it but things can get better. Even when you feel alone there are people to talk with and reaching out on here is a massive step.

I’ve suffered in the past and I know it can be hard when you’re feeling down. If you need a chat/rant or just someone to listen just say the word.

It's been a while so I'm not sure these days, but there used to be websites or apps for chatting to people if you cannot handle anything that's not from behind a screen. Or a listening service like Samaritans or Mind perhaps if you want to be reassured by the sound of another real human on the phone.

Someone once taught me this. It’s simple and useful. How do you really feel right now?

I feel a bit shit. Look at your routines and behaviours. Time for a change. Get support from people who can help that change, eg gym, hobby groups etc.

Life is shit. Something needs to change and it’s important. Job, relationship, look at what is toxic and deal with it head on. Get support from people who care about you.

I am shit. Get to your GP. Ring them today, distract yourself rest of the day.

Reaching out is a very important first step, so we'll done for doing that ( hope that doesn't seem patronising) , talk to people, try and do one thing every day that you enjoy ... I did something earlier which I found useful because I've been a bit up and down recently, and that was to write all the positive things about me...nothing negative... feel free to message me if you need a chat x

Don't overlook medication either. I know some are dead set against it, but much of mh is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain.

It is a personal journey, but I have found that medication helps me more than therapy has.

Awe I hope you're OK. I know you might enjoy a drink but it will do nothing but make you feel worse in the long run. Anything else you enjoy drinking that isn't alcoholic?

Do you feel like you need to talk? What about some local groups for men who are feeling similar to how you are feeling. Maybe even your gp, for medication which could help and even one to one therapy if that's more your thing.

It's ok to not be ok and there is nothing wrong to feel how you feel. But take care of yourself love, and reach out to those closest to you if you are able to. X
