I've got lovely neighbors. They recently had an extension which took 8 months of drilling etc etc but we didn't mind. However, their patio outside area is a bit further back in their garden. I had a text with a picture of him holding a g&t up to an ornamental fir tree I have in our garden with the sun peeping through the top. This text was at 7 pm in evening.

I was asked that if he paid for it could I have the top lopped off. I explained it was an ornamental tree not leayandi and the shape would be altered. However, I agreed it was ok if he wanted to arrange it and offered him my tree surgeon to contact and said I didn't want them unhappy.

He said, don't be silly, if it's ornamental he's happy to leave it and was only asking.

Should I forget it or insist he can do it??

Go round and have a GnT with him, see for yourself if the tree needs sorting.

"Go round and have a GnT with him, see for yourself if the tree needs sorting. "

Sounds like good advice.

Leave it. If he’s happy to forget about it, result.

Wiltshire and London

From experience I would say that lovely neighbours are of more value than any plants - not so much into ornamental trees but if I had anything that inconvenienced a good neighbour I'd try at the least to see their point of view. Go and have a GnT...

Yes. He did say he was going to invite us for a drink and see the new extension. I often make them cakes.

The pic was taken at 7 pm as the sun glinting through and it's at the very top of thin spire bit so wouldn't really last. I'm just too nice. Lol
