Thanks for the post, if nothing else it made me read up on the two types of herpes. I first had a really bad outbreak of HV1 (cold sores) at about 10 but very very rarely (as in I can't remember when I last had a coldsore, probably years ago) get it now. Comforting to know that most adults have it, and that most aquire it like I did as a child.

I didn't realise HV2 existed in all honesty and suspect part of your issue may well be similar ignorance. As it's been so long since I last had a coldsore, and the fact they're so ubiquitous (up to 80% of the population are apparently carriers) it simply doesn't occur to me to consider myself as infected and I suspect many people with HV2 are the same. After an initial infection with no further symptoms I'm guessing most would not even think that they pose a risk. Kudos to you for being open and honest.
