Does everyone else know?

I'm not really computer savvy, so maybe this is something everyone else knows?

I'd been messaging with a man on this site but it didn't progress. We hadn't swapped details re name / location but I noticed yesterday that he popped up on my Facebook 'people you may know'

I've just checked through the list and two other people I've spoken to on this site are on that list - full names, friends, photos etc

I'm assuming I'd appear on their 'people you may know list' too?

Is this usual? Is there any way to stop it?

Cookies.

If I go on Amazon, I can imagine suggested purchases are rope and padlocks.

Go to your phone settings and turn off sync contacts. I think.

SW Birmingham outskirts

Make sure your privacy filters are set correctly. There are some off-site visibility filters to switch off at the bottom of the list.

It could be possible that they have mutual friends with you, that’s why they are coming up on the 'people you may know'.

Very likely to be browser cookies or tracking. If you both go to Facebook directly from here there's a direct link too.

Could be location based either

Some people (lots of people) have allowed Facebook, or other places, to access their phone contacts. So even if you haven’t, the person you’re speaking to might have.

In that case, adding someone to your contacts (be it a phone number, an email address, WhatsApp, or even just a name) or you being added to theirs, is something Facebook can pick up on.

So be careful.

See the burner phone thread, or get an iphone

Use incognito on your browser so it doesn’t track.

"Use incognito on your browser so it doesn’t track. "

This isn't quite correct. Incognito only clears your browser. Google still records everything you do.

Brave browser is probably the most comprehensive and secure as far as privacy goes.
