" Ps. I am hoping this to be a bit lighthearted and not upset anyone. " Is it possible to be light hearted thinking about your own death ?

" Ps. I am hoping this to be a bit lighthearted and not upset anyone. Is it possible to be light hearted thinking about your own death ?" Apparently you are meant to be cool headed and always have these things well organised. Just interested in what others do

Just interested in what others do " Visualising your own funeral, who will be there , who will speak and what they will say about you , is a very powerful meditation. The other stuff, yes. Respect the living. Don’t make a bad time even worse for them by forcing them to make all your decisions for you when they are grieving.

But on the other hand, why not let your next of kin choose what they prefer to do ? Why force your preferences on them ? For example if I said I wanted to be buried at sea it would be difficult and expensive for my children to organise.

"Mine has been planned and paid for a few years now....my will is kept updated x" The sun is out, it’s a beautiful Monday morning so let’s talk about funerals I’ve unfortunately had reason to consider this is the last year and I’d like mine to be a happy affair. If anyone’s miserable at my funeral I’ll never speak to them again! Mr p

"I'm going to have one of my best friends keep my phone, and after my funeral text everyone "Thank you for coming" from my number" I saw that on Instagram the other day, hilarious I really don't care, I'll be dead. I think they're a waste of money really. Cheapest option, no service. Just plant me a tree somewhere or something.

"I haven't thought too much about it. All I know is I want it cheap and simple and I will keep money aside to cover the cost. I've spent a fortune on three family members funerals over the last few years and it has made a stressful time even more stressful. I don't want to put my partner and children through that. " They're not cheap and if you don't have plans made, its not a time to shop around.

" Ps. I am hoping this to be a bit lighthearted and not upset anyone. Is it possible to be light hearted thinking about your own death ?" Is it you have a morbid sense of humour. Ive made the request in my will that my funeral be a joyful occasion and to lighten the mood, instead of a depressing coffin, I've requested a trebuchet to launch me into space. Or as close as it can get.

I guess because I'm young and healthy I assume I'll be fine which is so naive. I'll definitely look into plans at some point in the near future.

" I've requested a trebuchet to launch me into space. Or as close as it can get." Maybe this could be accompanied by the full cast of Les Miserables singing "I dreamed a dream". Or just Susan Boyle ?

" Having done a few and sat with grieving people left behind, no one wants to have to make all those decisions in such a limited time and risk offending other family members etc or doing the dead person disrespect . It’s selfish. It’s your funeral not theirs , you should plan and pay for it yourself !

Funeral directors are salesmen and prey on the vulnerable , solid polished wood and brass caskets and expensive cars etc they will tell you it’s respectful and what they would have wanted, or it’s the right thing to do . We decorated my mates cardboard coffin with letters, photos and stickers while he laid in it on the table. About 100 of us had a party remembering him. There’s some min legal requirements about storage abs transport of dead bodies to the crematorium and a small fee for the bbq coals or you can give the whole body to science for free.

"I haven't given it much thought really. But I have made provision for six tall, dark and handsome 35 year old men to stand, dressed in black suits with crisp, white shirts at the back of my funeral service dabbing their eyes. Afterwards they will be at my graveside openly crying before each dropping a different, single bloom wrapped in a tiny scrap of lace lingerie onto my coffin before walking away. " There you go. And if they know it can also do the river dance after too.

"I'm being buried in a grave with my mum and my Irish grandparents. I want people weeping and wailing at the graveside and then I want the mourners to go dance, sing and let their hair down and have a bloody good time, telling stories about me " There's bits of Irish culture that isn't nice but it is hard to beat an Irish wake. They know how to support people at their worst time and see the deceased off.

"I really didn't like this thread but now actually I think it's been very helpful to say many others. It's really got me thinking, thank you op. " Thank you for that and tbh I thought a lot before posting it but genuinely wanted to know what others thought as it's a difficult subject often ignored but also one that is important to consider for many reasons that others have mentioned. I spoke to someone recently who just said to me, 'I sorted that long time ago, it's all in hand and I or anyone else don't have to think or worry about it'. I thought that was rather nice.
