The world is still full of traditionalists, but I would hope attitudes to this have become more progressive in recent years.

It is, although it's seems that weddings are getting more extravagant, so I think it's every one these days, parents, bride and groom.

your head

Don't think it's properly been a thing for a long time. I got married 14 years ago and we paid for it ourselves.

for a penny

The average cost of a wedding is something like £18-20K.

You decide.

Our wedding was mainly paid for by us, my parents paid for fixed things and his parents paid for the photographer as a gift. Otherwise though, it was all us. We were not long out of uni and we didn't spend a fortune either.

I think you're a pretty entitled child if you *expect* this to be the case, but I can also see why parents who can afford to help might want to do so.

Probably could have purchased a house for cash with what my wedding cost.

Will I do it for my offspring? Not a cat on hells chance. I’ll buy her the house instead.

Our child recently got engaged, but they won't be planning the actual big day for a while as they can't afford it.

They intend to pay for it themselves

Equal opportunities for all, you pay for them too. It's almost like you had some Scottish in you

I think that yes, in certain circles it's still a thing.

My dad paid for my wedding dress. I didn’t ask he just insisted he wanted to and my in-laws paid for our photographer as a wedding gift. We were really grateful they wanted to help pay for some things but we wouldn’t have had them pay for the whole day.

We put a sum away for each child. Anything over that they'll need to fund themselves

Not a daughter but my Dad has a wedge set aside for me and constantly reminds me whenever I have the merest hint of a girlfriend.

Not ever gonna be enough to convince me to get married.
