To me a staycation means staying at home and going off for day trips.

Anywhere else is a holiday. I like going on holiday to Scotland (west coast).

I was skinny dipping on a quiet beach and a load of nosy seals came to join me We saw orca too, amazing creatures. Loads of glorious food and drink produced there. It's fab.

Staycation is a word that was hijacked by the media and travel industry during the pandemic and completely misused.

I first came across it around 20 odd years ago when my sister-in-law (who is Canadian) would use it.

What it ACTUALLY means is that you STAY at home and go on days out within a reasonable distance of your home - not going on holiday in the same country - because that is a VACATION - as in you VACATE your home.

Although the ferry journey can be looooong if weather isn't great

A few of my fav places which are all coastal in the UK are Hunstanton in East Anglia, Perranporth in Cornwall, Harlech/Porthmadog in North Wales, Tyne & Wear and surrounding area in the North East and Largs/Loch Lomand and surrounding area in west of Scotland. All of these places for me aren't about shopping, rides or entertainment but have some great scenery and nature locations to explore, relax and take photos of.

I still need to visit the Lake District and would love to do the North Coast 500

North east coast every time for me , sunrise photography, two good beach castles, holy island, Farne islands , Richard dunwoodys cafe/gallery, make a road trip and visit York, robin hoods bay and Durham

I just found myself shouting at the telly a lot when they used to talk about Staycations around lockdowns
