Why see the doctor - i get depressed

Jump to newest

Had an appointment with the doctor last night, and he decided to weigh me.

Now I know I am not the smallest person around, I carry a couple of extra pounds or is it reserves.

Anyway he check the chart and i fall into the dangerously clinical obese category so got the 20 minute lecturer on looking weight, eating healthy etc.

The real kicker is that I'm loosing weight at the moment.

If you've already made the decision to lose weight, then don't let it depress you, rather use it to spur you on. And good luck

Shit man that sucks. Did you jab him in the eye?

I don't have a doctor so I have to walk into the drop in. Last time I went this doctor more or less shouted at me for not having a doctor. I said "There's no need to be an ass about it"

If I wasn't in so much pain I'd have reported him.

If you are already losing weight then keep it up...and the next time you see the doctor you will be going in the right direction. You will feel a lot better and it will help avoid several other nasty diseases too!

was reading about the new 5/2 diet in the paper at the weekend and quite a few people seem to have had great results on it. The appealing part about it is that for 5 days of the week you can eat pretty much anything you like. Best of luck

I went to my doctor the other week cos of raised blood pressure. Upshot, he has told me I need to lose 4 stone. Now I know I'm know I'm only short but 4 stone.....

I'm a size 16 above and 12 below. If I lose 4 stone what size will I be. OK some may say yes you're big. But I happen to like me.

I told him politely no way. We have agreed on 2 and he has given me until the middle of April to lose 1 stone, am doing ok as have lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks. I'd love to lose the more than the 1 stone before I go back.

I'm cutting down on portion size and trying to get more excercise and hope this will help me

When I was concerned about the side effects of my anti-epilepsy medication, I was told by a doctor that a dose of anorexia (a side effect of said drug) wouldn't do me any harm.

Doctors are full of doom and gloom and follow the national cirriculum of stop smoking, stop drinking, dump the car and run to work, just a group of professional hypocrits. Most are not on this planet anyway so just avoid McDonalds for a few months and loose a few pounds as long as your happy why worry

Yeah...lol, they just see too many people, more concerned with making money and pushing pills...

I have no trust in professional people anymore, I research what I think I need and fix myself, its free lifetime care and no appointment needed!

I was told on the phone so couldn't really do that. My doc was a nice bloke.

I remember when he was off this one time and I had to see this young Asian woman. Oooo she was hot!

There is no miracle or quick fix diet with long lasting results - the only thing that really works is a change of lifestyle (become more active), diet (eat natural unprocessed foods) and portion control.

I cannot believe what I read on some of the diet products, the list of ingredients is endless with chemicals most people are hard pressed to read let alone understand and on top of everything they are expensive.

Good wholesome food, freshly prepared and in sensible portions combined with an active lifestyle ... works long term

Drop in centers aren't. designed as an optional alternative to a GP so not that surprising really.

I know this but I've not really got much choice. And this one will let you register as a patient anyways. I just gotta get the paperwork done

The last time I went to see my GP, I told him exactly what I thought of the fact that he spent 2 minutes on what I went for and 10 minutes telling me I was fat (which was not related to why I went). No help or advice, just a lecture on why being fat would lead to the end of civilisation as we know it.

Fat people - the new enemy of the NHS. If your a fat smoker, apparently they now execute you on sight.

Asshats.

I thought that. Problem is the t.v. version of the plan did have the presenter saying that if he fasted for two , he could eat pretty much anything on the other five.... What he should have said was. He can eat as much healthy food as he likes on the other five as long as he keeps within a calorie limit.

He may have decided he thought it best to weigh you but YOU got on the scales. It is optional . xx

But surprise surprise people jump on the "eat anything " part. I have a friend that swears by it but he swears the main benefit id the detox aspect, something that would be totally lost if you didn;t eat well the other 5 days.

But back on thread, some of the posts remind me of a woman I had the mispleasure of having to listen to in my GP waiting room last year. According to her, GP's are shit when she goes about her COPD they just lecture her about smoking and when she has her diabetes check up they just lectured her about her weight and diet... Some people only hear what they want to hear. It's not hard to work out why a doctor lectures on the subject of weight or smoking, I'm fully aware of why I always get pulled up by my GP about my drinking, but non of us like to have our lifestyle choices criticised.

I had to explain this to my Mum. She was saying that because the Times said you could eat what you like then it must be true. So I had to say that eating cake the other 5 days would still end up in weight gain AND malnutrition.

People read diets and pick the bits they want to do and wonder why they don't lose weight.

I can see why you don't have a doctor. I hate going to mine as they always bring my weight up. I know i am over weight and i am trying to lose it but that is never good enough. Some doctors need to think before they speak as they can be very heartless on someones feeling.

i do think doctors have a duty to make patients aware of issues that may impact negatively on their health, however, I do agree that there should also be consideration given to ensuring that this is sensitively done

"I went to the docs for help with my bulimia, he weighed me, asked me to take my top off and told me I was obese at 10 stone!!

I had that when I was recovering from anorexia!!!

Signed up to a new GP when I was learning how to eat again and the nurse took my height and weight before the doctor came in.

The whole BMI chart thing had only just been introduced and she turned around and said "You're BMI is a bit high, you may want to look at losing some weight"!!! - Now, I'm not being funny, you could SEE that I was ill. Sunken cheeks, jutting collar bones, skinny, weak, pale, the lot! And with the size of my frame, I was dangerously underweight.

The doctor overheard and called her out into the hallway. Never heard someone receive such a bollocking. I felt quite sorry for her but surely common sense would prevail.
