Dear Lådìes, Nøn-Bínarìes and Persons of Interest...

Is it true that standard eligibility for breast screening is only for those persons between the ages of 50 and 70?

Are you proactive in getting yourself checked regularly?

If you had to go for a checkup or a mammogram, for whatever reason, would you prefer to take someone with you as a chaperone during the appointment?

Wherever

I believe that to be true Nero. I just turned 50 so I’m awaiting my first invitation shortly.

I will go by myself as I always do for any medical appointments.

Delightful Bliss

Yes. Breast tissue is considered too dense in under 50's to be able to detect all lumps accurately in mannograms. So we all should feel throughly with our hands every month, for any changes

Next Door

I've had quite a few mammograms before I was 50 and after.

I don't go with a chaperone,

It's a quick, around 5 mins to have the photos taken.

I don't go Nero. My take up has been nil.

I did a lot of research and thinking and I thought NO ....

I was asked to go for cancer gene testing a few years ago due to family history.

I was initially in two minds about it as I absolutely terrified if honest. The implications and the what ifs were pretty alarming.

I did go in the end and thankfully all was well.

I went alone.

I do check my boobs regularly too.

Tonypandy.

I had several before I was 50, but that was due to finding lumps and being referred (fatty deposits)

Went alone, didn't take long and was only mildly uncomfortable.

I had my first mammogram at end of January on the back of a referral from my GP about a lump... I actually rather enjoyed the mammogram ( I'm a weirdo I know ) however the needle biopsy I had done last week was considerably less pleasant lol

I was pleasantly surprised in the M&S changing rooms last week, that while trying on bras they have stickers up on the mirrors demonstrating how to check yourself and what to look out for.

They also have them on the back of the doors in the women's toilets
