As you get older, with all the turmoil, scams, violence, etc etc and becoming more vulnerable, does anyone feel less secure, more nervous etc?

Yer I get you. Nothing seems the same anymore. I think the pandemic triggered something in me. A financial crisis brings out the worst in people. I'm not half as trusting anymore. Pretty sad

Not so much on dangers in society generally, but I've met guys who are very scared to be caught out about their sexuality.

It's a tension he feels... when his friends and relations are saying sympathetic things about gays and bi's. But he knows he will be rejected if he got caught out.

I don't feel less secure but I do feel concerned for our children's future. I suspect there will be food shortages even in countries where this hasn't been a concern for 150 years and a huge problem with people currently living in areas that are being made uninhabitable by climate change needing to migrate and nobody wanting them.

Turmoil and violence are nothing new so I don't think about them often although the increase in casual knife crime is horrific. I deal with scams by trusting nobody with money in any form unless I'm 100% sure they're who they claim to be although I do worry about my dad on that score

I don't feel less secure or nervous about life in general. I have lived through some absolutely horrible times before and gotten through them. I am more confident now in my ability to say no to people and to be able to keep going through life. There is only one big thing that has had an effect on my life the last year and uncertainty about that is still a big worry and concern to me that is exhausting at times as it's always at the back of my mind.Life at times no matter what age you are can be tough. I have found finding the brightness in the darkest times is the best way to get through the tough times,sometimes it just takes the smallest glimmer of hope or joy to turn things around, especially when you feel like you're swimming against the tide .

I used to. Thoughts and constant worry of the future (mostly pertaining to my youngest who has ASD) ended up giving me anxiety.

Now I’m on medication, and I couldn’t worry about anything if I tried. It’s a blessed relief.

I don’t watch the news, I get my news from the radio as it is more succinct and less doom mongering, so that also helps.

There's one scam I'm hopefully never going to call for. Romance fraud. My Facebook account is locked down so tight that only my friends can see it and I exclude some of them from certain posts! However on the one occasion I posted a review about a tourist attraction abroad with an accompanying photo of myself I've had '40 year old American surgeons' posting asking to be my friend because I'm so pretty

I'm extremely scared of the safety of my great-grandchildren. I wasn't like it with my own children or grandchildren.

Now, I'm paranoid something will happen to one of them or that someone will try to take one of them.

It gives me terrible anxiety.

There is nothing to fear but fear it's self, growing up in the 80's was 100% worse then today,now the only fear is what's posted on the internet and pumped out on that black box in the corner of the room,once you remove yourself from such things as social media and the media you become detached from what is going on and start to listen to the birds and appreciate what is actually going on in the world

Sometimes the world seems a scary place but really it’s now as safe as or safer than it ever has been. Some technology can be intimidating. Can’t be stopped though.

This is interesting I was reading recently about as we get older we can be at risk of using our imagination about the future much less and before you know it spend more time looking back than forward and that’s not good.

Core curiosities of change like parenting/location/lifestyle/adventure can get harder to imagine because of the inevitable health decline and relationships ending , work winding down, feeling less physically strong and able to survive & defend yourself

If you feel scared of the future I would challenge you to recreate a sense of joy accepting things like health and relationships will change. What can you still be positive about? Being very creative while realistic in your imagination is an important skill to develop

After my heart attack I realised how fragile I am and although I thought of myself as living a good lifestyle and quite healthy in fact my body soon gave me a wake up call. I also met other Men on the ICU who were having an even worse time, inc not being able to control their bowel movements, something I truly dread.

I now have a creeping dread of old age, my mother has dementia and I do find myself checking everything twice, not relying on a certainty that I had done what I needed to do. So will go back to my home to check if the oven is off or no tap is on.

The rest of the World, war in Ukraine, Brexit, Cost of living, Global Warming and Tory sleaze (aka Boris) doesn’t have the same impact but I do worry about my children.

I was born and lived all my life in NI and as such what was the norm for me would be most peoples nightmare.

Nothing suprises me, I've become immune to violence and I've never fallen for a scam.

I do worry about the next generation though and while the last 18 months have been extremely challenging for all sorts of reasons and personal loss I am aware at times how precious life is and that it shouldn't be wasted.
