What songs have fantastic intros, but are pretty boring overall - or fail to maintain the magic/energy that the intro has...

Born Slippy - Underworld

Still Dre - Dr Dre

Heaven can Wait - Iron Maiden

Sorrow - Pink Floyd

These are great shouts! I tried to think of one on seeing the thread title but couldn't, so popped in for inspiration.

I find it's more often the opposite, especially with longer songs - if I'm playing someone something I love and they haven't heard, I so often feel I keep having to say 'Just wait a bit...no, it gets brilliant soon...just coming up...'

Somewhere In The Ether…

This is going to be controversial but please don’t shoot me until I’ve explained….

The Who: Won’t Get Fooled Again.

A legendary and iconic intro with some very clever synth orchestration.

However….the song (for me at least) was both unspectacular and seriously over long.

Ok, you can shoot me now

At the time, Diary of a Madman by Ozzy. Since then though, it's grown on me.

Cannonball - The Breeders. I don't hate it, it just doesn't quite deliver what the first few bars promise.

Cloud 8

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary. I don’t dislike the rest of the song, but compared to one of the best intros of all time in any genre ever, it’s a bit…. hmmm
