Late 17th century centred very much on the metaphysical and was highly intellectualized, use rather strange imagery, use frequent paradox and contain extremely complicated thought. Discuss

Oo that's a bit above my pay grade.

I'd love to be knowledgeable about such things so I'm hoping some people will come along with interesting quotes and insights.

Are we talking about the likes of Donne and Aphra Benn?

Well, I retract my earlier sentiments; I found a little snippet of a poem that resonates with me: Gather ye rose-buds while ye may,

Old Time is still a-flying;

And this same flower that smiles today

Tomorrow will be dying...

Robert Herrick 'To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time'.

Donne's canonization and Behn's Oroonoko are very much representative of that period for sure

Cowley, Vaughan and Donne

Each focused on the meta

But soon the love was gone

As each thought they were better

Too wordy (in an archaic sense).

Give me Bukowski and Cooper Clarke. Or throw a copy of anything by Cormac McCarthy at me, then I'll be happily poetryed up to my eyeballs.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Does Jake Thackery count? LOL!

Weird, yet reasonably funny? You will have to trawl for the lyrics.
