Go on then, it's nearly the bank holiday weekend. Current recommendations please for good but relatively inexpensive wine (less than £15), white or red so everyone can stock their rack or fridge

I don't drink wine at all but good quality and inexpensive don't usually go together when buying Wine, unless you dont mind if it tastes like Nero's bath water.

I agree and certainly that is very true for red wine. I like to present a challenge and there are sometimes some real gems out there.

Waitrose sells a pretty decent bottle of valpolicella - just under £15. Let it breathe/decant it if wanted to but it's not bad if you drink it straight away. Think it's part of their No 1 range?

Co-op do a really nice Muriel rioja that's on offer for £7.25 st the moment. Tastes a lot more expensive than it is.

The Big Smoke

Stick with French wine if you can. The inexpensive ones - ie under a tenner are still reasonable quality. I like a French Sauvignon the best but you can find a decent Chardonnay and loads of different reds. Between £8 and £12.

They have less sulphites so I can actually drink them. New world wines tend to be full of crap from how they’re filtered so can definitely give you a worse hangover.

All the supermarkets have good ranges of these and it’s just about finding what style of wine you like the best.

Just my 2p worth having been a Beer, Wines and Spirits buyer for over 10 years.

But wine is subjective. Find what you like and go with that.

How about a Cahor red? Greatly undervalued and you’ll get a belter for that money. Or for something lighter, a Chinon/Loire red? Failing those, doa little research and I’m sure you’ll get a decent Languedoc for that money .
