"where was this and when so we can look at the facts ourselves" As others have said, it was Cardiff, but the only 'facts' you'll get are those that are available online - and as with all such 'facts' you're free to choose the ones you want to believe. From many occasions where I have personally been involved in incidents that have made the press, I'm well aware how poorly things are often reported though on the whole the BBC generally does a far better job than most other media outlets.

" No beat bobbies, no Police school visits, very few Police stations etc has bought a disrespect for Authority & that's before poor parenting. No idea where we end up as Police must now have a degree to join yet all education facilities are now extremely woke so what we breeding & coppers have no limits on physical size or appearance. Some would blow away in the wind so tend to observe unrest & film rather than engage and protect."

"No excuses for this at all. Sad that two people have lost their lives and sad that people feel that they have justification rioting!! Fucking idiots. This is what happens when a a complete lack of respect and authority happens. I Could go on a rant about social media, anti establishment agenda's influencing the feeble mined and conspiracy theorists. But I won't." But you would be correct…

"You don't have to have a degree in order to join the police in England and Wales. Most new officers go down the PCDA route, where after 36 months you get your degree after on the job training and tuition. Old school experienced police officers make up the bulk of training officers." Most officers on the streets now have less than five years service. My son joined last year and his most experienced tutor constable had three years service, it really is the blind leading the blind. When l retired from the Met l was the only experienced officer on my team, my most experienced colleague had six years in. This is mainly down the constant attacks on policing by successive Conservative governments, cutting numbers, selling off stations, cutting pay and pathetic leadership, so much for the law and order party!

"It was an scooter in the crash according to the news. Round our area we sometimes see kids riding small motorbikes on the road without safe control of their bike or even doing life saver checks. Just look at it as nature ing out the stupid people, it's the best way to stay sane." Same round here. Some of the kids clearly have a death wish which is then occasionally granted. It is sad but sometimes you can’t help people who think they are immortal. I feel sorry for the people who have to pick up the pieces.

"There is now a disconnect between the young & the Police, their generation only see Police in cars. No beat bobbies, no Police school visits, very few Police stations etc has bought a disrespect for Authority & that's before poor parenting. Unfortunately society gets the policing it so deserves, theres no protection for the officers no backing from management- publicly hung out to dry at every available opportunity by Police Chiefs on social media. They’re judged by armchair critics on a 10 second reel on facebook, tictok twitter at every available opportunity. Theres an air of SELF ENTITLEMENT about the public in this country copy cat shite they see in America, auditors vloggers - everyones just after that like on their social media account. The Wayne Cousins haven't helped the plight however statistically there has been more persons murdered by Doctors,Nurses, Midwifes and taxi drivers, etc all in positions of trust but this doesn't suit the media agenda of demoralising what was once a world renounce police force.

" A lot of truth in there but certainly a lot of society still respect the Police & ultimately this government has diminished the service cutting numbers & Police Stations thus letting the public down & allowing the disrespectful to gain a foothold. I am certain Labour would of done no better but that's no consolation. People not separating Wayne Couzens from the many good coppers is compounded by the press wanting to bash the Police.

" A quick google tells me that the minimum requirement is 2 GCSE's grade C or above. Not a high bar. A good friend of ours is serving police officer and he's doing a paramedic qualification and is desperate to leave the police. So many of his colleagues have left over the past few years. He says that nobody wants to do the job anymore and that those who do aren't the types they want, but as nobody is applying, they take what they can get. Bess x

"There was also trouble in Wembley North London 2 days ago when about 150 youths started attacking cars and buses for no reason and then the police when they turned up... I think we could sadly be in for a summer of riots across the UK.... All for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The mind boggles as to what these people actually want from life" They need a good hiding to straighten them out

"It's disappointing to read some police bashing comments on here when ultimately it wasn't their life choices that caused this incident. It is sad for the families of those who lost their lives but as harsh as it sounds, you play stupid games you win stupid prizes." I haven’t read any police bashing comments on here? I thought this thread was quite supportive tbh.

Standing back and observing could be more to do with the directive given to them.

That said, the BBC have just released footage showing what appears to be a police van following two youngsters on some kind of powered scooter minutes before the crash and just over 1/2 a mile away. That isn't the same as them being in pursuit at the time of the crash which they denied earlier but certainly isn't likely to endear them to those who believe they lie to cover their own backs.

"I work near Ely It's a fucking shit hole, it's like shameless fucked this is England and had a inbred disgusting child " -Come on, parts of it aren't great I agree, but it's not that bad. And a lot of the houses are very fine - it just lacks attention. I used to cut right through it to see my partner right at the top, in Caerau. Car crime with kids has always been a problem up there (another time when I fixed someone's pc and the road was blocked by the police), and my ex remembered the original 'Ely Bread Riots' back in the 90's, where the sudden intense heat one summer caused loads of kids to get triggered by some silly event in a shop. Her school closed so she wandered around for the day I think. I think Cardiff hit 22 degrees when this happened, and no doubt a lot of people will think the sudden heat could be involved in some way. FWIW Ely resides over Ely Bridge (Cardiff has a few rivers) and can feel like you are leaving Cardiff a bit. But they are slowly doing it up from the bridge into Ely itself. They always had a problem with connecting it to town. They do it with a constant bus stream, but it needed and needs a lot more localised attractions really. They need to build properly within in - and just for the people of Ely. A huge amount of Cardiff's money goes straight into the centre (which is an excellent centre) or trying to uber-nationalise people with no interest in having that done to them. Ely 'Hub' has many Welsh language books for example literally taking the room of English ones. And all the books were pared-down for unused computers and the council's presence too of course. It's endless bad governance in a world of alcopops and mobile phones. pt

"I feel for the families of those that lost their life and those who suffered damage to property. Those boys apparently lay in the road for hours due to emergency services being unable to reach them because of the riots and coming under attack. I don’t know why the rioters were rioting, but it sure wasn’t out of compassion for the lives lost. No mum or dad should have to carry the burden of that knowledge. I hope the Ely community come together to support each other through this. " This

"After the commissioner has been stating all day the police were not chasing them it was just social media rumours....footage has now emerged ( looks like from a bedroom window) of the bike going past followed by a police van chasing them.( BBC 6pm news). The police van must have radiod in that they were chasing the two ,so actually the rumours were founded " But not enough to justify a riot!

My point was the police commissioner was lying through his teeth all day..unaware there was video footage..when challenged by reporters he walked away like David Cameron used to do
