..Of Not Giving A Fuck!

Always planned to read the book but never got round to it but as it's now on Netflix I'm watching.

And I've literally just paused it to type this as it rings sooooooooooooo true for many of the woes, whines and whinges, expressions of dismay, frustration and angst that are seen in the Fab forums daily, if not hourly, as well as in status updates and profile text.

"Maybe it's not their fault? Maybe it's something I'm doing?"

"A lot of people recoil from this idea that we're responsible for everything that happens in our lives. But it's true. We just are. You hear stories of people like this...all these terrible stories of things that have been inflicted on them....they don't want to accept that, like, life is always going to suck a little bit. And everybody has their shit. But it's up to us as individuals not to blame others for this stuff."

"We're accustomed to equating fault and responsibility as being the same thing, but they're not. We're not always at fault for our pain, but we are always responsible for our pain. We are always interpreting our pain. We are always reacting to our pain."

"Every awful thing that happens in our lives, you have a choice to make. How are you going to react to it? How can I make this meaningful? What can I do about it? How can I move forward? That is a tough pill to swallow and it takes most of us a long time to swallow that....but it's true."

"Responsibility is essentially admitting that you can make a different choice next time and so until you adopt that responsibility, you're going to make the same choices over and over again"

Really worth a watch if, like me, you're too lazy to read the book.

Happy Monday folks.

I've read the book, as you can see from my current profile pic

Didn't realise it was now a Netflix show - will check it out.

One off film but it's great hearing things directly from Mark. Sometimes visual imagery accompanying words helps get the message across.

Thanks for the heads up I will watch. So agree with this though. I may not always have had a choice about the bad things but I have always been able to choose how I react. And when it comes to choosing bad relationships I've taken the step back to see where I was responsible so that hopefully I make different and better choices in the future.

Oh I'll check it out, it sounds intriguing.

Choice is our biggest strength and weakness.. You can choose to be happy... or choose to be sad.. Once you have the key it's easy!
