Or just the original post, then hit 'comment' and reply?

It often amuses me that if you do read a whole thread you can spot people who've missed important details, sometimes omitted in the first post or added mid-way through the thread either by the OP or other contributors, that make the comment someone adds later either completely redundant, repetitive or appearing to miss a point made completely.

I'm sure we're all guilty of just getting so excited about posting that we jump to then end to get our 2p's with in as quick as possible.

I'm sure we're all just as guilty of skim reading a thread early in the morning over a brew and letting vitally important content pass over our heads.

And even if you do generally try and read a whole post, I'm sure we've all reached a particular comment, felt the need to post a response to a statement or opinion expressed and then once we've added our thoughts, scrolled back up to find that half a dozen people made the exact same remark or hilarious joke hours before.

I know I'm guilty of all the above at times. Must try harder.....

I'm quite good at skim reading so I don't tend to miss important edits/info etc.

I can't be arsed dealing with threads where it's just solid blocks of people quoting each other though so I tend to ignore them.

Depending on the subject matter.

Most of the time I like to just post something irrelevant to the discussion based on the title.

Especially when it's just two people scoring points at one another or even just chatting and the post becomes the length of a novel

Yes! Why not edit and reflect the part you're replying to?

It's a shame because some threads seem initially interesting but I can't be arsed reading it properly when that happens.

We read the thread but tend to post early so it's easier to do. If it's a longer thread we will skim read to see if anyone has made a similar point to save us posting.

Depends on the thread and if the subject is semi interesting.

There are many repetitive threads that generate repetitive responses so I only need to read the op before deciding not to read any further or contribute.

I have in the past responded on a couple of threads only to be told the question had already been clarified or answered further up but when I scrolled back there appeared to be a lot of gaps in the conversation due to comments being removed.

I think for a lot of people they react to the original poster rather than the post and ignore obvious red flags to jump on the scyhophant wagon.

It depends on certain factors.

If there's a question posed, I may go straight to reply.

If there's a statement made, I may read others views before posting, so not to repeat the majority response.

And then, it can come down to my mindset, or spare time I have whilst browsing.

Whichever way, I like to try to offer a different perspective, an angle that may not have been considered, and so that can prompt me to reply to a mid post comment before I've read the whole thread.

I try and delete those huge blocks and just leave the last relevant point I'm responding to.

Like I just did.

Depends on time. Sometimes I read from the bottom up. Sometimes I read it all. Sometimes I get bored and make a post so I can go back later and find how far I'd read to.

Depends how long it is.

Usually the opening post, one or two others at the start and the then skip to the last few posts.

I’m more likely to read a whole thread if it’s short.

If it’s interesting then I’ll read it all if it isn’t too long. Most of the time I’ll read the first few comments and the last few, completely missing out whatever has been said in between.

I try and read every post on the thread, though i may skim through really long replies. I get annoyed though when forum 'friends' just chat midway through or completely derail the thread, its like a 'love in' sometimes

I think it's important to read every post but I no longer do due to a lot of replies being naff all to do with the O.P.

I'll read everyone before I respond IF the thread is interesting , people are being relevant and the thread is not too long.

Sometimes I go straight to the end and respond to the O.P. only but usually start with a disclaimer that I haven't read the thread.

Really it depends on time factors, how I feel in that moment and if I am looking for something in particular.

End of the day - I do it as I want to do it when I want to do it. .... No strict rules.

Depends on the subject off the thread…

Sometimes I will quietly read and look in depth or at the different perspectives/opinions to get a better understanding off the topic In general and peoples responses to it…

Other times I will skim through it comes down to if it draws my attention or if it’s light hearted/informative/wholesome or controversial etc..

It all comes down to what kind off mood or mindset I am in at that time period..

There are times even when I just exit threads shaking my head and think to myself some very unpleasant or incredibly harsh thoughts towards some individuals on here….

I always read the OP. I can’t bear the shame of commenting and then realising I’ve completely missed the point, thanks to some context and balance in the subsequent posts!

Or of making the same pun the ten people before me did.
