Never trust a mirror,

For the mirror always lies,

It makes you think that all your worth,

Can be seen from the outside.

Never trust a mirror,

It only shows you skin deep,

You can't see how your eyelids flutter,

When you're drifting off to sleep,

It doesn't show you what he sees,

When you're only being you,

Or how your eyes just light up,

When you're loving what you do,

It doesn't capture when you're smiling,

Where no one else can see,

And your reflection cannot tell you,

Everything you mean to me,

Never trust a mirror,

For it only shows your skin,

And if you think that it dictates your worth,

It's time you looked within.

(‘Never Trust A Mirror - a poem about trust’ by Erin Hanson)

I hope this connects with you, the way it did me x

Manchester-ish

Yes. I'll just find one similar that resonated with me.

Manchester-ish

Today I asked my body what she needed,

Which is a big deal

Considering my journey of

Not Really Asking That Much.

I thought she might need more water.

Or protein.

Or greens.

Or yoga.

Or supplements.

Or movement.

But as I stood in the shower

Reflecting on her stretch marks,

Her roundness where I would like flatness,

Her softness where I would like firmness,

All those conditioned wishes

That form a bundle of

Never-Quite-Right-Ness,

She whispered very gently:

Could you just love me like this?

{Hollie Holden, June 2016}

That's actually beautiful.

Ah I love that one. I saw this one the other day too which I absolutely adored.

"You are not what you look like. You're the music you listen to, the shows you watch, the art you make, the flowers in your hair, and your favorite blanket. You're not the pimple on your nose or the pudge on your tummy. You're not your thighs or your teeth. You are the color of your hair. You're the mismatched socks you wear and your favorite sweater. You're not what you look like or the body you are in. You are what you love."

I've made incredible progress over the last year or so changing my mindset on my appearance determining my worth. You're so much more than what you look like. It's good to focus on what is within.

The World Didn't See

The world didn't see when he held her,

And he kissed her cold cheek as he cried.

Or how time seemed to stop and the ground opened up

When he heard that his baby had died.

The world didn't see him paint over,

The room he'd made one month before.

How he packed up her things, gave her teddy a hug,

Then collapsed in a heap on the floor.

The world didn't see all the long nights,

Or the struggle through work the next day.

How the dark cloud above him forever kept growing

And nothing could blow it away.

The world didn't ask him how he was,

Cause' a man who's in pain must be 'strong'.

The world didn't see that a loss dad cries too,

That his journey through grief's just as long.

The world didn't see, but the world's waking up -

You're a loss dad and you matter too.

And you'll never stop grieving, you'll never stop loving

Your baby - half mum ... but half you.

-afterevalyn

A friend sent me this some years ago. Even now, sometimes I can’t bring myself to read it, and sometimes it still makes me cry. Words can be so evocative of an emotion, of a time and a place… it’s quite frightening.

In am era when there is an unhealthy obsession with physical appearance which we know can lead to awful esteem and mental health issues, it's great to read words that remind us that how we value ourselves is and should be impacted far more by the non physical things. Sorry if I haven't expressed that very well

In the middle

If the mountain seems too big today then climb a hill instead,

If the morning brings you sadness it’s ok to stay in bed,

If the day ahead feels heavy and your plans feel like a curse,

There’s no shame in rearranging don’t make yourself feel worse,

If a shower stings like needles and a both feels like you’ll drown,

If you haven’t washed your hair for days don’t throw away your crown,

A day is not a lifetime, a rest is not defeat, don’t think of it as failure, just a quiet kind retreat,

It’s ok to take a moment from an anxious fractured mind,

The world will not stop turning while you are getting realigned,

The mountain will still be there when you want to try again,

You can climb it in your own time, just love yourself til then (group hug)

Laura Ding-Edwards

For the this of us who have climbed that mountain and for the ones still trying, you’re not alone

Thank you RfD (we are the three word abbreviation gang!) I always stick by the adage that the most important things in life are not things. Thanks again for posting those words x
