"As an ex squaddie myself your treading on this ice with your question. Are you for real?" Meaning what ? That soldiers wives can't swing ? Are more precious than other women ? Shouldn't follow in their husbands footsteps? Put me right.

"He may be wondering if the op wanted the wife of a soldier who is away on active service to play behind their husband's back. I'm nor judging anyone but when I was away fighting it would've crushed me to think my wife (now ex) was sleeping with guys behind my back. Things like that affect morale." Thats what i thought!

"I think it's slightly different to a guy serving on the front line to an accountant who's wife is playing away. Sure, cheating is cheating, but an accountant isn't putting his life on the line and praying he lives to see his wife again." But with the greatest of respect for all the service men and women who do each and everyone of us proud, that is there career choice, and I for one, am thankful they step up to the mark and beyond. But I don't think that's the real issue here, if someone is happy to play with attached or married folks, again their choice and decision, I do not feel that they will take a moral stance because of a partners career.

"The op may even be a serviceman himself? He hasn't stated he's even looking for a meet, he could just be asking the question out of his own interest for all I know. Who knows eh? " Who knows indeed...... :P

"Whether a person travels abroad to kill or whether they nip into the office to push numbers around has NO bearing on infidelity whatsoever. It's either right or wrong by your own moral code. Anyone saying it does is using straw men to support their argument and failing to realise that it's down to the individual to fuck or not to fuck. Isn't it rather romantic to assume all soldiers are madly in love with their spouses? I bet some dread going home just as much as some wives dread their return. " Of course it's down to the individual to fuck [cheat] or not, but it doesn't make it any easier for a guy being shot at thinking he has his faithful wife to come home to. What if was aware of it and it distracted him to the point where he wasn't looking out for his comrades as he should have been. He can't turn up for work that day and say to his CO, "Look guv, my wife's been fucking about and my mind isn't in the right place today, do you mind if I pull a sickie?". A woman married to a squaddie knows what she's getting herself into, and it's the unwritten rule that she keeps the homefires burning while he is sent into warzones at a moment's notice. It's not the same as an accountant pushing numbers about as he isn't going to get someone else killed if he makes a mistake. It's very important that a soldier's mind is in the right place when he's in a hostile environment, or someone is going to die.

It doesn't matter what is happening in reality. All that matters is what someone believes. If someone believes their partner is faithful ..... no problem.

"So does the same go for the police and fire service then or any other job where your life can be put on the line?" in my opinion... YES.

"There is not really a comparison there is there ?. Everything that the Fire service etc do is made as safe as possible with strict control on how they do their jobs. The armed services get shot at and blown up ."

The fire brigade go on strike putting peoples' lives at risk, having to be covered by the military & hen denying the military the use of their kit thus causing the servicemen to use out dated kit when they attend emergencies the oh so brave fire brigade should be attending... Fire brigade, brave, unswervingly faithful & serving the nation? Mentioning them in the same breath as the military 'trod on a nerve'....

"To insatiable - I have two relatives in the fire service. When they are on duty, their lives are put at risk - going into fires to save lives, cutting people out of cars at road accident scenes, yet yobs throw bricks at them. The strikes are about maintaining safe services, and preventing stations from being closed. Their pensions have changed so drastically over the past ten years. My ten year old niece recently commented how she cherishes her dad, and knows he risks his life. Although you're entitled to your opinions, and your comment also trod on a nerve! "

" So the emergency services men and women that went into the twin towers in New York are to spoken in different breath to the military then? I think you will find that even during the strikes that in event of real emergencies they were due to stop striking anyway. I have friends in the military, fire, police and ambulance service and I certainly do not think the military person's life to be worth more than any of the others so im sorry that I trod on a " nerve" but to me each are doing what they choose to which is serve and protect and no life is worth more than the other
