I am booked in to have a vasectomy in June I'm a little nervous as not sure what to expect haven't spoke to anyone who has had one to get an understanding of it's painful

I've had mine done a couple of months ago now.

Firstly, don't worry about pain. There isn't any. A sharp scratch for the first bit of anaesthetic, and it's numb within thirty seconds. Like can't feel a thing numb. If you do feel anything, let the surgeon know right away and they'll give you another jab.

Secondly, it *will* feel weird. Again, no pain but you'll still feel the tugging around. I picked a spot on the ceiling to stare at while I had a conversation with a lovely nurse.

Finally, the best advice I got was to sit on an ice pack or frozen veg (wrapped in a cloth) for about half hour on, half off, for as long as I could for the first day. I also regularly took some paracetamol and ibuprofen starting just before the procedure. All in, barely had any real pain, just very small discomfort for about three days.

Have you had kids already and are you sure you'll never want any/more? Because it may be worth freezing some of your swimmers just in case you change your mind at some point.

I know people who've regretted not doing that after relationships have broken down and they've wanted to start a family with a new partner.

Have you had kids already and are you sure you'll never want any/more? Because it may be worth freezing some of your swimmers just in case you change your mind at some point.

I know people who've regretted not doing that after relationships have broken down and they've wanted to start a family with a new partner.

I would advise getting a pair of speedo’s. The proper 70’s pornstar ones. They helped me massively. They were so supportive while everything healed rather than a normal pair of apple catchers that allow your jewels to move.

Oh yeah, I forgot this one too! Definitely need to keep the boys supported for about a week. You'll get quite uncomfortable with gravity involved

The bit they don’t warn you about is the smell as they cauterise the tubes.

No pain (it just feels like someone’s tugging your insides), some discomfort afterwards (as previous posters have said. Ice/tight pants/speedos), but the smell came as a shock.

Just one bit to keep to yourself. They advised 100 ejaculations before unprotected sex. It took the wife about 12 to realise she didn’t actually have to be there ??

For some reason, there was 5 nurses in the room when I had mine done, the surgeon said they were all “necessary” staff just in case, then after the procedure another nurses “needed” to see it to make sure there was no bleeding.

But apart from that, pretty painless and yes, wear briefs for about a week for support.

My husband had his done a few weeks after our second child,we were really young at the time had to go though the counciling

Though I did still get to watch witch was cool but I did nearly pass out, it was the smell when they quarts it

The procedure for me was much less uncomfortable than the dentist. But the bruising and swelling do feel very odd for a couple of days. Peas and speed's mentioned above make sense.

Also ensure your partner hears you groan quietly and suffer nobly, and then feeds you lovely treats whilst you lie down at home.

I had mine years ago not and it was fairly stress free. The actual procedure itself was a little uncomfortable, but nothing extreme. I was back at work in the afternoon.

Afterwards I was a little uncomfortable for about a week or so, but never needed to take any of the pain killers that they'd given me.

I was having sex (gently) after a couple of days, but I didn't ride my bike for about two weeks.

Had it done 25 years ago - absolutely nothing to it, as others have said totally painless, a bit of tugging & a weird smell,

I had it done in the evening & was at work the next day (manual labour on a farm)

My annual flu jab hurts more!

I had loads of guys winding me up for years about what it was like when they got it done.

In reality, I thought it was a breeze. Much easier than getting a filling.

I actually wanted to shag my wife that night but she was having none of it.

I had no pain or swelling and getting my balls shaved was quite a nice feeling. (Even if it was by a fella!)

When I was done, the hardest part was not showing “appreciation” of absolutely gorgeous nurse there to calm me down… otherwise it’s a walk in the park.

The local anaesthetic was a little painful but I'd rather that pain than feel what he is doing down there

When he did my left tube I did feel a shooting pain down my bum hole which made me LOL

I wont go into details as it's just what happened to me, The surgeon was a flash git, pulled the tube right out showing off to his oppo, a trainee. I was black and blue, I collapsed at home and my bro took me round to the surgeons house hardly conscious, he gave me some really powerful painkiller, like they give horses, I was in agony for a week, only then swelling and pain started to subside. I told my doctor what happened as it was he that arranged it all, he called the guy there and then and the guy just laughed so my Doctor bless him told him he would not give him any more referrals. Everyone I have spoken to though has had no problems at all. As I have said to friends, if it were not for bad luck I would have no luck at all.

The snip is not bad at all. Felt absolutely nothing

Trying to maintain a conversation with a nurse whilst the doctor is doing the procedure was a little awkward

The burning smell and little tufts of smoke when they burn the tubes made me laugh

Recovery wasn’t bad either but you’re a little tender for a day. Stairs will be your enemy for day 1 and doggy style was a a position I avoided for a few weeks
