"Following the killing of an old lion that got separated from it's herd, local villagers broke into an enclosure meant to protect the lions and killed all six with spears. No humans were hurt and guards did not intervene to prevent an exclamation of violence. It is not known what has become of the deadions which may be used as bushmeat or the skins as trophies. These men are brave. Tom would not get into a fight with a lion armed with only a spear. It's all over the news " I'm not sure that I would consider them to be brave.

"Sounds like an awful way to go, poor things Seems the lions were starving and did what they do best, hunt for food" Maybe the Kenyans were starving, it's a dog eat dog World & these stunning creatures to us are likely just vermin to Kenyans that bring fear & danger. Poor things? Really.

"Its not funny its sad. Humans coming into conflict with animals because they encroach on the animals natural habitat is nothing new. " Where is our natural habitat then & how do you define it for Kenyan bush people who live & share that habitat? It happens & bleeding hearts forget that these beautiful animals you see in prisons/zoo's in this country are just the norm in Africa/India etc. The whole story is to tug at heart strings but not a big deal, If one Lion killed 6 Kenyan kids how would you feel?

"They broke into an enclosure and killed them with spears. How do you move from that to a Lion eating Kenyan kids? It's a fucking horrific story. They are enclosed for protection because they are endangered, and it has nothing to do with people being hungry, its a rite of passage that is for some reason being condoned in this thread by a minority. Honestly, sort your fucking heads out " Did you read the reports of what actually happened and the likely cause?

Same old. | |||

" Yep. The lions fed on animals after humans continue sprawl into their territory. Same old. " 'Same old' what? Same old worst drought in years? Same old potential starvation for indigenous populations? Maybe you can educate us all on the local area and how those living there have encroached upon it?

Pmany people in the UK feel they are some sort of Authority & great protectors of animals they admire in other people's countries. So arrogant.

The Masai have mostly abandoned this practice, certainly in that area as its not too far from Nairobi so easy access and important for the economy. They're not stupid they know this.

As fa as lions killing people, there is a big difference in thought process of a wild animal and a logical thinking human being.

Or maybe it's just a little more challenging to be logical when you're not sitting on a nice sofa thousands of miles away from free roaming lions.

Same old. " Easy to judge sat in one of the most wildlife deprived countries in the world where the fear of being killed by a wild animal passed into folklore hundreds of years ago. Its so much simpler when you just buy your food from a shop so it isn't you that tears down thousands of miles of hedgerows, blasts tonnes of insecticides and and shoots, traps gasses and poisons any wild animal that interferes with the farming needed to feed you. High horses are amazingly easy to mount from a plie of dead wildlife someone else has killed

"Not an enclosure. These national parks don't have them, animals are protected within the conservatory but are free to leave and wander. They don't bc they have no need to (usually)." Assume they were referencing the enclosure where the six lions had initially been placed for their protection and were then killed.

So with your logic we should kill all predatory animals just incase they head off to a village.

"So with your logic we should kill all predatory animals just incase they head off to a village. " We weren't discussing my logic. We were discussing the logic of people who actually live there. People who are unlikely to benefit from the safety of your sofa. Personally I think it's important to preserve wildlife in countries like Kenya. However I take issue when people here take a moral high ground about the tensions of doing so among poverty we can't comprehend. And all the while we cage lions in zoos but would be outraged if bears and wolves were released in the countryside here.
