Listerning to chasing classic cars on discovery shed. They are on about a racing TR4. It reminded me of selling my favourite car a E type that I spent many years restoring. I was encouraged to sell it by my ex as she wanted the garage space.

I not to proud to say I was rather upset when the car went and then a few months latter finding out that it had been wrecked.

So what thing have you let go and wish that you had not.

Two full wardrobes, a very full clothes rail and the backs of two doors fitted with hanging devices. I need to have another clear out.

My car is very sentimental to me, had her since new in Feb 2002, and is one of the few constants in my life in that time.

Not a classic as such, however, she is unique as she was one of her kind when I got her due to a custom paint job.

She cost me a fortune in repairs in recent years, and I am bracing myself the day when I have part with her for a better car when I can afford to do so.

I aim to keep her on the road as long as I can though, if I can afford to do so.

It is the thing with cars, they cost all the time with one thing or other. Up until my daughter was born I had picture of my E type by my bed

I sold my old Honda GL1000 Goldwing about 4yrs ago. It was a bog standard 1978 model, wire wheels and no plastic other than the side panels. A guy drove from Leeds and took it away in a horse box. I felt like crying.

I sold it and bought a ZZR1100 and nearly killed myself on it.

My car has done some serious milage travelling to meet others all over UK and Europe.

I met my late partner via a car community dedicated to the brand.

If my car could talk, she'll tell you all my naughty secrets.

I love my car. She may be an old girl, however, she can still goes a bit, and always give me a big smile on my face after a nice drive along twisty lanes with the music turned up really loud.

Alot of people do not get the driving for pleasure.

Rumour had it I was rather anal about mine and it getting wet, truth was it was lethal as soon as it went wet

Very true - a lot of people have a car to drive from A to B and back.

I drive because I enjoy driving.

I remember driving up and down the dual carriage way near where I used to live when I first got my car, so that I could complete the breaking in process as soon as I could in order to rev her up and have some fun.

Took her on a track in order to learn to get the most out of her too.

I was lucky enough to go on a skid pan with a instructor from fire service to master skids was very informative to say the least

Feel your pain buddy. I sold my pride and joy last year, a chrome orange Lotus Exige. Sold it because I done around 1000 miles per year, and I bought a new house.

Horrible feeling watch someone else drive it away.

I had a beautiful old track bike. It also had some interesting history having been built for a famous French rider. I loved it but it was fractionally too small so I reluctantly sold it.

He seemed a great guy and really appreciated both the beauty and the history of the bike so i was chuffed it had gone to a good home.

About a month later I get an angry call claiming that part of the frame was damaged, I refuted that but offered a refund. Not good enough. So I offered in fairness to pay half of the cost of the repair, not good enough but ultimately agreed. The work would have cost around £25 each, after he had it done he sent me an invoice for £200 claiming the work was £400! I told him, not entirely unreasonably to fuck off. Which was followed by weeks of abusive emails and occassional phonecalls accusing me of being a conman. It pisses me off to this day that of the dozens of bikes I've owned one of the finest is now owned by an utter arse of a man.

A pale blue 1974 Vespa Primervera 125. I sold it for a CB 750 when I was 20 (the insurance then was something like £110 for the Honda). I'll always regret that as I saw it a couple of years later and it still looked as gorgeous as when I'd first clapped eyes on it. The annoying thing was the bloke who bought it was such a nice chap, so in way I couldn't hold it against him, but in another...

My very cheap Z1000, well cheap when I bought it in the very late 70's, look at the prioe of them now! Not as much as a Z900 but still reasonable. But having said that it wouln't get sold now, only be part of my pension pot when I can't ride anymore. Oh and my fully sorted 1275 GT mini, really loved that car. My GSX-R1100 is filling the Z1000 spot now.

Nothing as esoteric as some of the other machinery eulogised about above, but the one car out of all (loads!) that I have owned (mine) or looked after (company cars) that was hard to let go, was our first 'family car' when with my ex. A brick-red 1982 Astra Mk1 facelift - TVO890X. We had it for 9 years, from 1990 to 99. When I was between company cars, it took us all over the country on holiday, over to France and for five years ferried my bike part way into London when I was cycling to work.

Eventually the MOT caught up with it and we had to take it to the scrap yard and say 'farewell'. Even my boys cried when we had to leave it...

The ultimate irony is that my ex, last I heard, is now with the bloke who owns that scrapyard!!!

It quite funny I brought a nova as my first car and then moved up to a Astra had nothing but problems so went back to a nova. The last I knew the nova's were still on road but they recycled the Astra
