"Commando or underwear under your lycra" Wearing underwear beneath cycling shorts really defeats the point, the pads are designed to provide a surfact that won't rub or chaff and the "lycra" is constructed in a way that wicks away sweat. Cal

"how does one deal with the spotty botty when that happens? I sometimes get them, specially through the summer months. " The general defence against saddle sores, is chamoix creme. It provides an antibacterial, anti-chaffing, moisturising barrier between your skin and your shorts... it also comes with sex names like Butt Balm, Bum Butter, and Squirrel's Nut Butter. Many top professional riders use these cremes, especially on longer rides. I also found that bib-shorts are better than normal shorts, because the "bib" bit keeps them in place... reduced movement means less rubbing & the pad sits where it should. Also, not every brand of shorts is the same and some brands fit different people better than others. Cal
