Couldn't drive my car in a straight line this morning.

And no I wasn't d*unk!

It's now with the mechanic till some time next week.

That's my freedom hampered. Dam it.

I've spent best part of April house trapped because of two lots of chicken pox.

I guess that my three right?

Anyone else house trapped?

Not house trapped as such but waiting for renovations to start, we have put off holidays since December with the anticipation of it starting, but still nothing started apart from the scaffolding being erected.

They have promised so many times yet not delivered on them, I've gone passed the angry stage now and just wait in anticipation for the next let down.

Reads like worn track rod ends causing the car not to drive in a straight line.

Your not exactly house trapped and your freedom is not hampered by much.

Theres plenty of things that still can be done.

Depending on whats around you theres park, woods or going for a walk.

At least theres some options that dont cost anything.

Sounds a little more serious than just the tracking being slightly out.

How much of 'not in a straight line' was it?

Did you check all your tyre pressures were ok?

You'll be amazed at how much of a difference that can make

It's raining.

Places I need to go or want to are a bloody long walk.

But you're right, for pleasure or an escape there are options.

I have an entirely free weekend to misbehave and I can't go anywhere unless I'm minted and can afford multiple ubers!

Interesting you say track rods. Garage told me it was a coil spring that's snapped. Though I didn't feel it snap.

Yeah, a snapped coil spring would do it.

Had to replace one on one of my vehicles a couple of years ago. Easy and quick enough to do - well, for me anyway as I have the right kit to do it with.

If both tyres are down by the same amount, it should affect things - only if they're a different pressures.

worn suspension bushes and worn track rod ends do as they walk while you drive sort like skipping left and right.

I don't think she was implying that the snapped coil spring was in any way connected to tyre pressures.

She was responding to my comment about her tyre pressures, that I'd made prior to her revealing that it had been diagnosed as a failed spring.

A snapped coil spring will absolutely affect tracking

tyre pressure reference wouldnt show whats been said either, you can drive right down to 15psi used in winter to get off ice roads and you need more tyre grip.

a spring pushes your suspension arm back down.

it has an effect when your cornering as one side will go down even lower than the other side.

you can hear a thud if it bottoms out.

your car will have a drop on it when stood, and if you bounce on a corner it bounces funny.

worn suspension arms and worn track rod ends cause skipping at any speed as the car will skip left or right and no amount of turning that steering wheel will keep it straight.

As goes for misbehaving well i can think of a few things

take your camera wear a skirt or dress take a walk, find some places hitch that skirt up and take a photo.

theres plenty of places to do it.

if you have your bullet with you make yourself nice and wet and take some more photos.

walk back knickerless and when get home finish off your play.

The comment about psi was just me responding to the pressure question. Not related to the diagnosed problem.

Didn't notice the car leaning one side. But I didn't notice that with a previous snapped coil spring either.

While driving I had to hold the steering wheel to one side as if I was turning in order to drive in a straight line. It pulled badly to the left if the steering wheel was straight.

I had noticed a clunky noise the last few days, it sounded like the back passenger side, happened when I went over speed bumps. I thought it was something I had put in my boot for taking to the tip. But I moved it and the noise still happened.

Garage diagnosed snapped coil spring.

They quoted 240 for it but said possibly 400 if certain parts couldn't be undone.

So my mechanic has taken it and quoted 180 all in regardless.

God knows when it'll be ready though.

It takes an 1 hr to 1hr and a half to fit one. on any wheel once you get the parts.

2 hrs tops if you have the ackward rusted bolts on the center shock absorber.

I shall raise my head above the parapet and surmise that the OP is simply a lousy driver, kerb'd her wheels, driven over a bollard whilst unsuccessfully doing an eight-point turn for the ³rd time, thus obliterating her axle and struts.

I often hear of women having problems with their Coils; this one is new to me.
