It's a strange one given amount of top secret and plenty of sighting of unknown space crafts makes you wonder do we get visitors

Think we’d have to be massively arrogant to assume we’re the only intelligent life in the universe.

Don’t know if we’ve been visited, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I honestly believe what people perceive has aliens, are more likely people who was a more advanced race of humans.who left the the earth.

Then just return every so often.

It's weird how we are lied to about our history.. for instance it's physically proven from carbon dating the rock used to build the sphinx that the monument itself is at least 12000-14000 years old .. that thing was there before the pyramids.. we were actually a very advanced species once upon a time and we're now discovering technology we already had years ago

Yes, but pretty hard to verify, no?... And if over so many decades what are they doing? Pretty sure it's not waiting on a postcard?

I doubt it's arrogant behaviour vs the life sustainably on other plants. Tied into cost effective issues... Neither your nor me is living out your life but here

It`s strange alot of things found in Egypt, most people today wouldn`t be able to build/make without advanced tools.

But we get told they made them with a copper chisel and a rock.

There are so many accounts a lot which get shit down immediately by government of course.. one interesting one was the story in Zimbabwean.. the list goes on there's no denying they exist.. they don't need to make contact.. my question was what do people think they are .. there are many theories

Ha! Quality question! And personally I believe no. I suspect we have in our time of human evolving lost some skills we had perhaps! I feel we could do a lot more than we genuinely rely on now, and we lost a fair bit of 'tech' along the way... There is some styles of things that we frankly do not know how to reproduce

How that happens is you have civilisations that flourish and become advanced then something happens such as a natural disaster floods ice ages and then you have to almost start again.. so the people who built these amazing monuments that are mysteries could of been far more advanced than us

There hasn’t been a disaster that’s wiped out the human race. If their tech was that advanced then logically surely it would be stored/shared? If not then they weren’t that advanced imo.

"Think we’d have to be massively arrogant to assume we’re the only intelligent life in the universe.

Don’t know if we’ve been visited, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Yet speaks volumes they don't want to make contact?... We are really shitty for anyone looking in from beyond

How do we know they haven’t, or haven’t tried?

Exactly she doesn't know anything just seems a bit angry

She doesn’t seem angry to me. Just a differing opinion and using sarcasm.

Nope! Not at all angry Just stating my personal comments in a thread vs a cpl of guys who'd huffed & blocked me... Limited science or historic facts needed

So do you believe there are aliens, or nah?

What makes you think no given the enormity of the universe? You think we’ve lost technology? I’m not even sure how that would happen.

Skills I would agree, but not tech.

Interesting because every religious text from all cultures around the world speak of the great flood "

You’ve read all religious texts? Are you religious? Can you point to any scientific papers on this great flood? Would be keen to read about it if you have.

Oh it must be true then.... And everything else in those text's including sl*very, misogyny, genocide etc... You have to believe in those too otherwise you're cherry picking what you like and creating you're own version.

So basically you stated something as a rebuttal and can’t back it up. You do the same thing in every “debate” when you can’t defend your point.

I think aliens are just that, alien. An unknown species.

That’s not how debates go. If you state something that’s incorrect people are right to call you out.

Anyway back to what you’ve stated. Using logic if those individual civilisations were so technically advanced why are they extinct? Where is there stored tech/knowledge? Why is there NO record of it?

Also what’s this great flood you mentioned in ALL religious texts?

How do we know they haven’t, or haven’t tried?

She doesn’t seem angry to me. Just a differing opinion and using sarcasm.

Nope! Not at all angry Just stating my personal comments in a thread vs a cpl of guys who'd huffed & blocked me... Limited science or historic facts needed

So do you believe there are aliens, or nah?

What makes you think no given the enormity of the universe? You think we’ve lost technology? I’m not even sure how that would happen.

Skills I would agree, but not tech.

Interesting because every religious text from all cultures around the world speak of the great flood

You’ve read all religious texts? Are you religious? Can you point to any scientific papers on this great flood? Would be keen to read about it if you have.

What's your view on the thread topic anyway

I’ve already answered now kindly answer my questions if you’re wanting an honest debate.

You haven't actually answered the topic of the thread .. what do you think they are.. but yes I've read many religious texts.. debate is good but I'm not here to get in heated negative battles over who is right or wrong

So basically you stated something as a rebuttal and can’t back it up. You do the same thing in every “debate” when you can’t defend your point.

I think aliens are just that, alien. An unknown species.

What is it you want me to back up mate ? What can any of us back up when it comes to history I'm not sure what your having a go about

You get very defensive, very quick. Not having a go at all, just debating.

You stated some nonsense about great floods in all religious texts when I mentioned humans haven’t experienced an extinction level disaster.

There can be disasters that wipe out civilisations or continents without it being extinction.. I like debates where people bounce off each others ideas and say yeah I hear you but what about this .. you seem to be all negative and calling things nonsense and making me back them up .. these are ideas views just chill go with it

Do you not think historical findings and proof we were an advanced civilisation could be disclosed and hidden from us? Have you ever heard of Edgar Cayce? His belief was that the sphinx was a monument built on top of a library of humanity's history left behind by an advanced civilisation

Between a cock and a soft place

"It's weird how we are lied to about our history.. for instance it's physically proven from carbon dating the rock used to build the sphinx that the monument itself is at least 12000-14000 years old .. that thing was there before the pyramids.. we were actually a very advanced species once upon a time and we're now discovering technology we already had years ago

It`s strange alot of things found in Egypt, most people today wouldn`t be able to build/make without advanced tools.

But we get told they made them with a copper chisel and a rock.

I've seen a video of three massive JCB trucks trying to lift one granite stone weighing around 40 tonnes and they couldn't lift it .. there's three granite stones in the kings chamber weighing around 80 tonnes .. "

All things are possible.

The great flood is mentioned in many cultures and religions around the world ..

Mesopotamian flood stories, Native American in North America, the Genesis flood narrative, manvantara-sandhya in Hinduism, and Deucalion and Pyrrha in Greek mythology

Tatooine

I would be inscientific and arrogant to asume that we were the only life in the univese. Of course there must be other forms of life somewhere.

There is intriging aruments for the possibility that we have had alian life vsit us, in paintings, hyroglif etch but, no definitive proof so we must be open to any theory until we have the smoking gun.

As ancient scultpure and monuments, Graham Hancock has a great theory regarding these, the ancient apocolypse theory. Just because we can't make or understand how these were built, it doesn't mean that they are alien and at some point in our history, we were am advanced race and something happened to wipe our technology out.

This also doesn't mean we didn't have some form of contact.

Modern society would have a reason to hide any evidence from us, reigion and current political institutions need to maintain control so a lot of evidence may be supressed.

Ffs. Just read some decent articles instead of coming up with unsubstantiated tripe.

Start with National Geographical or Harvard Magazine (both available on line) - even Wikipedia would give you something more reasonable than an idiotic conspiracy theory about aliens.

"I would be inscientific and arrogant to asume that we were the only life in the univese.

Modern society would have a reason to hide any evidence from us, reigion and current political institutions need to maintain control so a lot of evidence may be supressed."

On a similar theme but not the exact same subject there is an episode of Brian Cox's Universe that I have watched about 20 times that has freaked me out that I think the actual realists on here would like.

It's on iPlayer and it's about Black Holes. Watch the episode, as he drip feeds something and then when he walks on the beach, hits you with something VERY profound. Love to know your thoughts.

Similar idea to the people that think this world could just be a simulation.. same way we create games like GTA.. there's some new game created where's there's endless planets to discover and they've added AI to the game so the characters will be thinking for themselves and so on .some people say what's the difference between that and us

Have you seen a painting from 1860 called "The Unexpected One" by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller?

A woman walking down a rocky path with a young man on the right holding a rose.

If you look at her hands you can see she's holding a mobile phone.

* Does life exist on other planets? Probably

* Does sophisticated life exist on other planets? Maybe

* Does sophisticated life exist on other planets that are close enough to, and have come here? It's possible but we're getting less likely

For most of the historical stuff, I think "aliens" replaces religion. "I can't explain it, therefore aliens". I find it all a bit underwhelming.

Have you seen a painting from 1860 called "The Unexpected One" by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller?

A woman walking down a rocky path with a young man on the right holding a rose.

If you look at her hands you can see she's holding a mobile phone.

It's interesting, though, how conspiracy theorists tend to cling onto ideas like that, and usually refuse to let them go even though the evidence against them is overwhelming. It's less research and more cognitive dissonance and cope.

Modern society would have a reason to hide any evidence from us, reigion and current political institutions need to maintain control so a lot of evidence may be supressed.

So a worldwide conspiracy that’s lasted the dawn of time? I mean if that’s what you believe then have at it. I’m not even going to begin debating with you if that’s your viewpoint. I didn't say I did believe in it, It is simly a theaory to add to the discussion, why so offensive? "

I’m not sure what you’ve taken to be offensive tbh? If it was just a theory then fair enough. If it’s just that then the question should have been pretty easy to answer.

Creative, creative/destructive, certainly. Intelligent is questionable considering what we do to each other and the planet."

I always counter stuff like that by stating look at all the good humans do for each other daily. Even small, daily things like helping a neighbour. I find stuff like that heart warming and romantic personally.

I'm open to most possibilies excluding religion and to deem a person simply as a conspiracy theorist to try and discreted them is arogant at best and simply closed minded:

Epstien Islan: conspiricy until proven true.

US/Vietnam ,culf of Tonkin: Starting over a false flag, conspiracy until proven true.

Culf War and weapons of mass distruction: Conspiracy until proven true.

US poisoning alchohol during prohibition: Conspiracy until proven true.

MK-Ultra: Conspiracy until proven true.

Government spying on you: Conspiracy until proven true.

It is also nieve to say, because you don't agree with a persons theory that they parctice pseudoscience, some of these ideas need further investigaing and a true open minded person would be open to the possibiblity.

I don't believe in one theory about alian life but I am open to the possibilities and sicussion.

It happens.

I'm applying the same rationale for sorting truth from fiction as I do for anything else. The first comment of mine in this chain, I'm actually agreeing with his conclusion, not that it matters - some people jumped onto that as proof of something and he didn't.

It just goes off the rails quickly when we get into... anything else.

I'd still like to see a confirmation from the US government. Obviously given the stakes involved for those making the claims, I'd want to make sure it comes from an official source. And fortunately Fab allows US government links.

It is, of course, perfectly possible that strange things are true. But the stranger the claim, the stronger the evidence required. The person making the claim is required to put up the evidence (which can be circumstantial under some circumstances).

And for a direct claim like "the US government has confirmed their use of chemtrails" - the only evidence sufficient to prove that is direct. From the horse's mouth.

Conspiracies exist. That isn't positive evidence for any particular conspiracy being postulated.

I'm open to any idea, but the more unlikely the claim, the more rigorous standard of evidence are required to prove it.

There would be many reason to hide such knowledge.

Religion, is one of the oldest means of control over a population and any knowledge which could be benificial to people an such as the secret knowledge thories.

Politics, another mean of control where people are brainwashed into believing a group of people in 'democracy', has our interest at heart and would never hide secrets or betray our trust.

Global economy, keeping people zombies to consumerism and keep them dumb, make them thankful they have jobs and pay taxes just so they have enough to but the lastes phone your favourate z-list celebraty has.

The elite are part of societies which meet and dictate what path the world takes economicaly and politicaly, this is an atual thing.

I'am simply open to the possibility thay we might not have all the facts and I'm willing to keep an open mind.

If you were an alien would you want to make contact with humans? They've just got to look at our history to see how we've treated those we've deemed different from us.

First chance we'd get we'd kill them, cut them up and if we figured how to get to their world colonize it to steal it's natural resources and exterminate or make them live in "reservations".

It's a very standard reply to questions about sources. Not just the OP, anyone.

A lot of people don't like it when I do, in fact, "do my own research", because I actually know how

They tell me I'm doing it wrong, because for some reason "research" doesn't mean searching for a variety of sources, analysing their relative strength, seeking out corroborating evidence, considering the way the claim is framed, considering the conflicting motivations of the people making the claim?

"Research" in this dialect seems to mean "agree with me". And heck no. We didn't come out of the dark ages by blindly believing bollocks.

When you look at the cost of space exploration which would be the same if other life was advanced enough for space travel

The distances that other beings would have to travel factoring time also

It’s highly unlikely that they could live long enough to get here towing a huge food train as they go

If they did visit then what do you think would happen

I imagine we would be processed possibly for food, all our resources taken , so perhaps better to live un noticed in our own little solar system

I don’t think we’ve achieved the technology, or evolution required to be able to understand that currently myself. Much in the same manner we’re unable to explain the Big Bang, what created time, is this the only universe etc etc.

With the enormity of space, the universe etc and how little about it we currently know, I just can’t see humans being the only intelligent life. I can’t prove it, it can’t be disproved, so I guess technically I’m a bit of a conspiracy nut too.

You’d be surprised, given the age and size of the universe, the odds of intelligent life both existing and being able to have visited us are like one in a trillion trillion trillion or something, the generally held scientific conclusion is we are definitely alone

Nah.

Being agnostic about that which you cannot prove isn't a conspiracy.

"It's possible that there's intelligent life out there" is a reasonable reading of the evidence, or at least the evidence accessible to a layperson.

A conspiracy is more like "given the size of the universe, there has to be super intelligent life out there, and there's tonnes of evidence, but conveniently it's all been hidden. Probably something to do with Hilary Clinton making a secret agreement with Bill Gates, because once Hilary Clinton said "vaccine" and that's proof she's part of the Martian cabal."

"I'm open to most possibilies excluding religion and to deem a person simply as a conspiracy theorist to try and discreted them is arogant at best and simply closed minded:

Conspiracies exist. That isn't positive evidence for any particular conspiracy being postulated.

I'm open to any idea, but the more unlikely the claim, the more rigorous standard of evidence are required to prove it.

You have a dog? OK, you probably have a dog.

You have a dragon that's secretly chemtrailing all the truth tellers with vaccine? I'm gonna want to see receipts. And engineering paperwork."

FFS: I dind't say I believe in conspiricy theories, I'm just saying I have an open mind until proven one way or the other. Some do prove to be real. I never fucking said anything about vaccines and I'm not a anti vaccine person.

I certainly don't believe in dragons so why try and paint me a some rediculious fantasist.

All I ever said was I'm open to the possibities until proven one way or the other.

No, I don't have a dog.

I didn't say I did believe in it, It is simply a theory to add to the discussion, why so offensive?

I’m not sure what you’ve taken to be offensive tbh? If it was just a theory then fair enough. If it’s just that then the question should have been pretty easy to answer.

I'am simply open to the possibility thay we might not have all the facts and I'm willing to keep an open mind."

I’ll start from the top, but none of this is meant as an insult, just wanted to get that in.

What reasons? Again I ask does that mean you believe in a world wide conspiracy to withhold information and that that’s gone on for the dawn of time? Not a trick question either.

Not sure why you’ve put religion in there tbh. There are thousands of currently worshipped religions and there are also atheists.

Again not sure what your point is about politics, go back to my question about a global, life long conspiracy.

In fact skimmed all reply and none of it made much sense I’m afraid. If you could just answer my questions above it would help clarify where your heads at and we can have a genuine debate.

I'm sorry if you read that as attacking you. I was talking about ways of thinking about these things, bouncing off your comment.

The dog thing is a common example of the type. Unremarkable claims require little to no evidence under most circumstances. Remarkable or unlikely claims require more.

There is a new documentary out now called ' moment of contact' about a UFO incident in Brazil in the 90s, apparently 3 girls saw a being cowering against a wall and was obviously injured,it gave off a powerful awful stench and was taken to a hospital in a secure unit, obviously the Brazilian government covered it up until now

There were thousands of alien races but they have all been assimilated by the Borg. It's only them and us now, resistance is futile.

All I was pointing out is that all those where considered conspiracy theories which were all proven to be true and that people throw the word consoacy theorist to make someone out to be a nut job. All I have ever said is I'm open until there is defining proof one way or the other. That is a scientific mind. Even with all the research we have now, there is always new evidence being uncovered, It would be arrogant of me to say one way or the other about most things. Some, like religion ae easy to discredit, alien life or perhaps we have not discovered all out history is not as easy to discredit.

It sounds like we're broadly in agreement, although on the specific example of aliens making contact I'm going to say "probably not".

I'm entirely open to having my mind changed, but I'll respond to the quality of the claims being made.

If there's an extraordinary claim of any sort, the amount of evidence required is higher.

In this instance, something like "aliens exist and helped build the pyramids and you can't trust the government because chemtrails and do your own research"...

- do species from another planet exist? Universe is big. Probably. (As we get more sophisticated the odds reduce)

- did species from another planet help build the pyramids? They left no evidence that they did, no one talked about them. That would lead me to err towards "no". "Well we don't know how they did it" is not a reason to insert any bullshit answer anyone wants, it's why we keep looking. "I don't know yet" is a valid answer

- You can't trust the government. Trivially true. However, does this mean that a conspiracy of this nature is able to be hidden without credible sources coming out about it? The bigger the conspiracy, the less likely it is to be hidden. Think about hiding a secret that 2 people know versus twenty (and then, say, twenty million - thinking all governments from all time starting from the ancient Egyptians)

- chemtrails - well, that would be a conspiracy that were exposed *if it were true*. However, in the absence of evidence matching that claim, it seems unlikely.

- do your own research - an attempt to deflect the burden of proof from the person making the claim.

It always bemuses me a little when people believe or disbelieve in aliens with absolutely no available evidence but that some believe it's "arrogance" to think there are none. Also, it bemuses me that people believe or disbelieve in a "god" (whatever your definition of a "god" may be) with the same lack of evidence either way.

For my part, I don't really care if neither, one, or both exist.

I think in most instances, what's correct to do is have a tentative position based on the evidence that's presented.

On the basis of the evidence presented, for example, I think it's unlikely that there are sophisticated aliens that have communicated with us and perhaps interfered with our civilisations. I also don't think there's a god, and I don't think there's a chemtrail conspiracy. The burden of proof hasn't been met.

My position may change - if there's credible evidence that supports the opposite position.

So I suspect you probably don't have a fire breathing dragon (this is a hypothetical, I'm not saying anything about you). If I saw flames shooting out of your shed, that might be evidence in support of your fire breathing dragon - but I'd want to check against more mundane answers, like somebody really fucked up and set something on fire in there.

I believe in the existence in Aliens is far more possible then some deity we call God or Gods.

If Space is endless and there are trillions of planets, then I believe there is going to be something else out there. Just because humans could not survive on these planets, doesn't mean other life can't. I doubt there is anything else in our solar system other then some form of bacteria deep in the ground.

It's possible there are some highly intelligent life forms out there and they probably don't want anything to do with us. Watching us destroy our planet for numbers on a screen.
