As a committed Volvo devotee particularly the old Amazons and P1800’s,,,,,, I must admit to having an illicit love affair with all things VW too,,,,,,

The old Karmann Ghia is a thing of great joy and beauty and a pleasure to behold.....

Had a 1303s beetle left hooker, a v-dub campervan, and countless golf gti's.

Least successful v-dub I ever had was a TA fastback ..... what a bitch to work on, had to drop the engine just to change the exhaust system on it!

Way back in 1987 I was offered a Variant that had been sat in a garage for 14 years, was immaculate inside and out. Being a fickle teen who wanted something sporty I said no and the car was scrapped.

It saddens me to this day

A friend of mine has spent some years restoring an original late 60's split screen camper.

He rebuilt it with custom parts sourced from all over the world, including a rounded, multi-windowed rear end (don't know what it's actually called).

He put it on the road and realised the engine was shite, so he stripped it back and fettled a Porsche 911 engine & gearbox into it...

Still not satisfied, so he's now fitted a Porsche Cayenne 4X4 drive system & gearbox into the damn thing, he now owns a 4 wheel drive 1960's split screen camper van!

Apparently he had to fit stainless steel tubes down the length of the vehicle to resist the acceleration forces that would have otherwise caused his van to shrink every time he hit the gas!

I've got a Golf Mk3 GTi 16v that I'm sorting as a bit of a hobby.

It needs a respray, the laquers pealing but the body is solid and the engine is still amazingly responsive.

I bought a new set of seats off Ebay for it last week.

I love it

Hitler also redesigned the front end of the car himself (he gave it that happy face).

The originals used glue made from fish bones and when it got damp the cars stank.

Had a VW camper but the handling was deadly.

Got rid and bought a Triumph Vitesse instead.

TRAGEDY. driving a lot the duel carridge way as you do, when theres a massive house brick in the middle of the road that i couldnt avoid. bricks and lowered cars dont mix.

now the under side of my mk3 is hanging off. hopefully its just the plastic cover

First car was a VW Golf MkII - after dodgy service the garage forgot to refill the gear box with oil. It made a hell of a racket on the 250 mile journey back to uni but survived without any damage. The thing was bloody indestructible and I loved it
