This evening alone we've had messages from 5 different guys including 'mmmmmmm' somewhere in the text. Is it just me, or do other people find this totally cringeworthy?

I used to get it all the time too, I really hoped this one had stopped. As usual all the conversational work is passed on to the receiver too. It's too much of an easy one-liner and doesn't even get close to the stuff I'm into!

I can't say that I'm a fan of mmmmmmm popping up in a DM, but in my eyes it's no worse than any text speak or poor grammar/spelling. It's not an instant deal-breaker but it's a fairly major turn off.

Why be so coy if you are being so quick?

Most people want some kind of equality. Sex is crap for a lot of people when it's just one way. So it follows for me that any sensible introduction shouldn't start (ie and immediately end) with putting all the work on the recipient.

Both 'mmmmmmm' and 'hows u' (do they particularly care?) to me aren't so much conversation starters as rather-lazy words that make the other party do the harder work.
