I remember being given a dual cassette metallic blue tape deck as a teenager. I was so thrilled! It sticks in my mind for some reason.

I like the homemade gifts from my family most these days. But that tape deck will forever live in my heart.

Things aren't that important.

What moves me is when I think of my single mother, working and saving to give us the best Christmas ever. Each year.

And each year I was less grateful than I should have been, because i never really knew.

I wish I could travel back and explain to young me all the sacrifice and angst she suffered to please us.

I thanked her many times later, but would have heightened the experience at the time.

That's so lovely. I hope one day my kids feel this grateful

As a gift it would have to be the Nautical Barometer that my granddad gave me before he past. Not only is it beautiful, its the oldest things that our family own and he entrusted it to me.

"The gift of clarity and realisation when friends and family finally made me admit my ex was abusive "

I had some neighbours knock on the door, after she went once. FF couple. I was living in flats. Didn't know them at all. One of them just said 'this has been going on for months: why are you letting her treat you like that? I just started sobbing at the realisation, didn't occur to me. They came in stayed with me and when she came back - She had it out with her on the terrace thing outside. She didn't come back. So grateful to that woman, taught me a huge lesson. I remember her saying.

'no it's you that's the cunt, we hear the shit you say to him you fucked up, insecure bitch... If it was me I'd knock you the fuck out.'

Burnleyish (She/They)

I have two, both were from my 40th birthday... which was in the first big lockdown so shop options were limited.

The first was a gift bag full of random things that reminded my sibling and their children of me.

I got an accompanying video explaining every item (which ranged from carpet cleaner to a pack of dairylee dunkers)...

It had me howling...

The second was a birthday video from one of the doctors. I'm not usually a fan girl but I cried and squealed in excitement

When I was 9 my uncle and aunties Jack Russells had a litter of puppies all were sold except one my dad said it was being kept for a friend of his he would take me down to see it and play with it almost every night this was in the run up to Christmas and Christmas morning he said he was going out but soon returned with the puppy, it was the most unreal amazing feeling ever and I won’t ever receive a gift as good as that in ten lifetimes
